Is Destiny... Boring?

Don't need one with great AI, just one with better AI. You must know one of them. Certainly wouldn't be any of them Tom Clancy games you're playing right?

 

I've been playing this game non-stop since I picked up my pre-order and haven't gotten bored with it in the slightest. I've run the same strikes over and over again with random people via matchmaking and with my buddies in real life and have a blast every
single time. I cannot wait to hit 26+ and start doing those massive raids. My only complaints are the lack of raid matchmaking and social chat. I understand you need teamwork for raids but would it really hurt it to add matchmaking? Also, I know most people
say things like "I don't want to hear 12yr olds crying and whining" which is fair enough, but how about having the option to turn chat on or off? Proximity chat would be great!

 

Im a long time Bungie Halo fan. I was very pumped for this game and had faith they could deliver. I even but the 120 buck version. I even enjoyed the beta. But once you put time into the game it makes you wonder what were they thinking? Its not a mmo due
to the fact you can't really chat with anyone outside the Tower. The story missions get boring really fast due to the same thing over and over. You fight a bunch of horde enemies finish repeat. Its pretty bad if your doing it alone. Nothing worse then spending
45 boring mins or more fighting 25 waves of horde just to have that 1 shot take you out and you have to re do it all over again. Bungie messed up an its a shame we gotta wait 10 plus years before they start their next project. Do not buy this game or rent.
We unfortunately have to wait till next year when the real games start to come out. If anything buy Assassin Creed and The Crew. Combat was boring also. If your use to Battle Field with so much going on or Gears games and Rainbow where its more tactical this
game is going to bore you to tears.

 

As far as 'dumb AI' goes... some of you must be playing a different Destiny game than I am. I mean yes, they're AI. If you're expecting human traits, you're expecting a bit too much, at least for right now. I honestly don't know what some of your are expecting.

I was doing some level 18-20 strikes last night in mm (yeah, I've been taking my time playing the game, so I just hit 20) and I saw some decent AI tactics. In fact, I saw some tactics that actually surprised me [considering they were AI].

I saw several higher level NPCs (like Captains) that were attacking me react to my changing weapons. I had a Captain who was just relentlessly pursuing me, so I jumped up to a higher position that he couldn't get to and pulled out a sniper rifle. I didn't
even get a chance to pull off a shot at him... as soon as I raised up the rifle and put him in scope, he ran straight for the nearest cover between him and I. This happened several times and not only with Captains.

Of course lower level AI aren't going to be all that smart... they aren't supposed to be. Thralls are like suicide grunts in Halo, they're supposed to bum rush you. Not to mention the fact that, especially in strike missions, this game throws a ton of enemies
at you. Can you imagine the crying if they were aggressive enough to keep pursuing, as opposed to just providing proximity protection? I can hear the complaining already... 'Oh WTH, they put like 100 enemies in this area and I couldn't even back up to regain
health because like 10 of them just kept chasing me all around the map..."

 

I'm starting to feel the same way. I have been at the tower for more than an hour trying to find someone to play with. Maybe once every 15 or 20 minutes someone my level +/-1 come by. Hard to make friends when all I can do is the 4 gestures. Hardly anyone
has a microphone... There just aren't many people in general... If thing don't pick up this game is going to die... I guess I'll just hang out and kick the ball around.

 

I think the game is fantastic! there is so many things to do and trying out the different weapons makes the combat feel different! the crucible is a blast! great game bungie!

 

Of course you're right Blue, the enemy AI in this game just like any other past Bungie titles is superb. And that's superb comparatively to any of their competitors because that's the only way you can rate enemy AI.

I think it was just a failed troll attempt anyway, throwing up the first thing that came into his mind. Otherwise surely another game's AI could be named as equal or superior but of course.... nothing.

If you want to criticise the game which anyone's quite entitled to or even just troll because that's your cynical way at least put some meat on it. Personally I don't rate the MP at all just like I've never rated any Bungie MP because I just don't like shoot
from the hip spray and pray MP.

But SP enemy AI, again Bungie does the best there is - simple as, full stop.

That is about the only thing they do intelligently, is take cover, but in many other regards they fail to impress. At the start of pretty much every engagement they out number you and so they should be very aggressive keeping the pressure on you, especially
if they are a higher level than you. However they don't, there have been many situations in the story where I can keep one or two enemies in my line of sight and they will attack me, the rest just kind of sit there waiting. If I start to take some hits I can
sit in cover and with the exception of a few melee only enemies, they show no intent on forcing me out - i.e. lobbing grenades or taking the opportunity to rush me for a melee.

Along the same lines, the AI seems to have very limited movement range, much like a previous poster said. I don't remember the exact mission I was doing but I ran across two really strong ranged enemies and all I had to due to kill both was:

1.)take a couple shots at them

2.) sit in cover until they finished their barrage and went back to their original location

3.) take some more shots

4.) rinse and repeat

They showed no real sense of aggression and were very predictable.

I honestly see no reason to why anyone would play the story mode with another person, because it is easy enough as is solo, with another person it would be an absolute slaughter.

I'm not saying Destiny is a bad game, it's just not an amazing game you would expect from Bungie. Does the game have a ton of potential? Sure, but when judging the current state of a game the potential it has doesn't turn a decent game into an amazing one.

 

Sold Destiny back to the game store today... just felt like Bungie dropped the ball on many aspects of this game... it's not really compelling as a single player game... and it's also not realy working as a social game... why can't you talk to people you
see? How hard would proximity chat have been to include in the game? See someone your level in the tower, walk up to them, ask if they need help, or if they can help you, etc... see someone on Patrol, same thing... instead everyone is in a parallel game without
any simple way to communicate... none of my friends have the game, so I was really hoping to able to easily team up with random people at my level to complete missions with... just did not work out, alas... back to Titanfall, I guess...

 

I like to see any game do well. Destiny isn't bad, it's just nothing new, and there are other games that do it better. Feels as if the devs played it safe. Also, the buzz word "hype" gets tossed around a lot, these days. That could be a small part of
the problem.

I wouldn't throw it in the bargain bin quite yet, but I also wouldn't recommend Destiny to anyone. Boring may be the wrong word here. Sterile? Shallow? Lackluster? Maybe.

 

Boring ? I'd have to agree , co-op is ok with friends , PvP is abysmal , in short it's a "here today , gone tomorrow" game . Be dead in a few months save for the die hards .
