is Ark Survival Evolved a cross Play game

My sons friend who lives in another state and only has a PC wants to get him Ark Survival Evolved for his birthday. However, my son has an xbox one. I'm sorry I don't know much about the gaming world. Will the two be able to play together with two different
systems? In the future how will I know if a game is compatible with both the PC and xbox one? Thank you!

Currently it is not possible. The developers said that they are looking into implementing across platform playing in the future.

I believe that Ark Survival Evolved is not a cross platform game. I understand you and your friend are using Windows 10 but there is no cross play with Ark Survival Evolved between Xbox GamePass Beta and Steam.

Ark Survival Evolved is a full game, and Ark Extinction is an add-on. Your title and description are contrary to each other and so I'm confused.

If you purchased Ark Survival Evolved then you should be just able to play it. However, if you purchased Ark Extinction then you must also purchase Ark
Survival Evolved.

Yes cross play is enabled on xbox/PC(window store version only not steam version)

The Windows store version is crossplay with the Xbox version because of version matching. The Steam version tends to be a different iteration
of the code.
