is anyone else sick of the gaming media

What's interesting to me is how short-term gaming news has become. Some old gaming magazines and websites would show you upcoming games years ahead of time, but now they only focus on things coming within the same year. Then, it's all they talk about. Kotaku
is guilty of this and is a prime example. Although, that's kind of taken a back seat lately as Kotaku has figured out how to mine Reddit for click bait.

 

i am not saying sony is the root of all evil but i am saying the gaming media has been on a downard spiral since sony entered. since sony entered they got worse and worse over time and more and more bais. they really seem to enjoy starting fanboy wars these
days.

 

You probably think that way because Sony entered the market and destroyed the competition. It only makes sense for the news to focus on what's hot. So blame Nintendo for betraying Sony and causing them to make their own console, don't blame Sony for making
quality consoles with lots of fun games.

 

Gaming media has degraded into reporting mostly on resolution and frames per second to incite fanboy wars to earn themselves more money. I can't complain because you adapt to survive, however it makes more some of the stupidest conversations.

agrees with OP. deleted IGN from my facebook feed because of crap like this... it was an endless "which console is really the best?" festival of flamewar clickbait...so tired of seeing that crap. the consoles are only a month or so old...there's already
a winner announced daily in IGN articles...

others are now posting about how PS4 won Jan2014...which is correct...but the numbers are so low for both consoles, it's nothing to get excited about (something like 200,000 to 100,000). Those numbers are tiny...Those numbers are basically saying "next-gen
sucks" to me...and it does. Both these new things are half-baked...

 

There is one i blame sony for unyobro and that is starting this paying for third party exclusives crap because that is what the did through out the ps 1 life and of course ms do it back at them.

 

Oh ok that makes a lot of sense and is totally a great reason to hate a video game company!

 

i don't hate them. but i dislike there fanboys more than i dislike any other fanboy. fanboys suck anyway but sony ones more so than any other. the only thing i can think of worst than sony fanboys is apple ones.

 

I look through feeds daily for actual news, especially since it is relatively easy to pick through the flame bait and a lot of the comments made due to said flame bait are priceless. That said if you want news and less BS stick to reddit or GAF all the gaming
journalists want now are website hits.

 

more news and less bs is exactly what i am looking for. thank will give the a go. all this resolution crap has been getting on my nerves as it is not news.

 

The more involved I've become in the gaming media as a whole the more I've found it be an amazing but often harsh and horrible place. The majority of writers out there are genuinely just good people, and the conspiracy theories are normally just that.

But there is some dodgy stuff, too.

The simple truth, though, is its a harsh place, often not because of advertising or money, but because of gamers. Go against the grain and you'll get called every horrible name thrown at you. Disagree with the mainstream sites, many of whom have now been
beaten into submission, and things get worse.

Some people make it through. Jim Sterling somehow managed it, largely by luck, and has now become a sensible voice in an industry lacking sense.

If you want to get big, though, then usually you have to pander to the crowd. ***, that's why I'll never make it big. I don't bloody pander when it comes to anything I write, something which as often gotten me into trouble with professionals and publishers
alike.

In general the crowd what's meek opinions that fit in with their preconcieved world view. But there are still good sources out there. I still subscribe to Edge magazine because I find their writing to be of good quality and they don't seem afraid to openly
criticise even the biggest games, to put the boot in where it's *** well needed. They run great opinion pieces, too Escapist is a good site, and now has Jim Sterling running Editor duties. Giantbomb does good stuff, too, and Eurogamer have good reviews, I
find.

Take a gander at smaller sites, too. There's some great talent out there.

 

Gaming media tends to be bias, I'd much rather read reviews written by an average gamer vs. reading a "journalist's" insights. The best and most reliable advice comes from your peers.

With that said, as long as you give these major sites/organizations your attention, the more material they will produce. Personally, I only use these sites for their game-play guides (help finding collectibles/quest help). I don't care much for this Playstation
vs Xbox thing they have going on.

 

i don't care much for the 1080p nonsense most of them report. have come across hardcoregamer.com latley though and they don't seem to bad so far. not seen and nonsense about resolution in there news so far which is good because that is not news.

 

First up what is Nintendo? Kidding... It was my first ever console... But even I can recognise when the past is the past and Nintendo are insignificant and have been a long time.

The gaming media I am tired of is pretending like a game genre (shooters being the best example) is this incredibly amazing next gen experience that is honestly, the same bloody game we played when halo first launched with a better coat of paint. I mean
really are gamers looking for nothing more than what we have already played a million times over? CoD says yes.
