Is Anyone Else Dissapointed With The New Xbox One Experience?

I love Xbox and have been using it as my main gaming system since Xbox 360 came out. When the Xbox One came out we were slightly diasppointed that the system was geared toward the "all in one entertainment system" which is cool. The new features are interesting,
but not useful for me who is a dedicated gamer. I don't use the tv, I don't use the apps (other than probably Netflix), I don't rent/buy movies or tv show episodes, and I have about 5 friends on live. I know that just because I don't use it, doesn't mean it's
useful, but I was just expecting that Xbox would add all these features, but end up knowing "they are a gaming console first".

When I heard that the Xbox One was going to get a large software overhaul soon after the Windows 10 release I was fairly excited, although am I the only one disappointed when the new update was advertised as "the most social Xbox experience ever." My friends
and I were upset to hear this because we don't care about liking each post, or the cumbersome activity feed. We would have liked a more gaming focused option at least, not another social media space.

I really do appreciate the new features, and the new layout looks like it will be more helpful for somethings, but I just wish there was a setting to where I can hide the social features, or just make the gaming features the most easily accessible.

    :)

So, maybe I'll just keep my 10 year old copy of Halo CE

I just learned CEA multiplayer is running on Reach servers Is Anyone Else Dissapointed With The New Xbox One Experience? :( Please tell me it's not true... After finishing the campaign, multiplayer was the best thing in Halo. We spent more time in multiplayer than anything else. So for $40 all we get is updated graphics,
online co-op, and cheevos? Sorry 343 I'll wait for this one to hit the bargain bin, anyone else dissapointed with this?

I don't have any "social" stuff shoved on me...I have a friends list and activity feed, very similar to the 360. Just like anything in the menu, I don't have to look at it, it isn't up front and center while I game, I have to choose to highlight and look
at it. I play games, the xbox one does that very well in my opinion. I don't sit around and look at the menus. I have a favorites section on the left where my games are pinned, hit one and go. If I want to party I snap a party and go...everything else is something
I don't spend any time with. However, I have not been forced to do anything when it comes to twitter, facebook, or any other social bs...

I tend to agree OP. I don't like the "What's On" tab on the current dashboard, I don't like the "Staff Picks" section of it. I use the Friends app to like a couple of friends' recently pinged achievements or recent game captures, but I don't need a dedicated
"Friends" tab on my dash to do that.

While it doesn't bother TODI that these tabs are there, presumably giving a gamer options to remove these things wouldn't bother TODI either. So I don't get that comment, TODI, frankly. lol {=D

It's almost like having desktop shortcuts you can't delete from your PC. I like a clean desktop. My most-used shortcuts sit in the taskbar, and I have a nice beautiful clean wallpaper that sometimes changes depending on my mood. Maybe I'm playing a game
to death and I stick a HD wallpaper for the game up there.

Customising the dash would be nice. I don't want to make room on my dash for Major Nelson's, and AceyBongo's grinning mugs... in any tab. I have NO interest in the staff picks or official promotions. I don't really even need to see my most recently used
stuff. I'd like to set that to just show games, rather than apps/snapped apps with that lil snap icon in the top right.

It'd be nice to be able to control our own space. As with our phones, tablets, and desktop PCs. But meh... it aint likely to happen. *shruggage* =)

  6. Hey there

To be honest with you, I don't look at the dashboard much. So I hardly notice any changes they make to it. This is the same when I use my PC or phone. I don't look at the dashboard or home-screen to much, so don't really care to much to what is displayed.

I do, however, think it would be a good idea if we could choose what tabs we have on our home-screen. The home-screen, now, can be customized, as we can add images as backgrounds and choose what apps to pin etc...

If you did want to submit any suggestions to Xbox/Microsoft, you can use their uservoice website here:

I also don't think that the "social" function is being forced, and don't pay much attention to it.

  10. Are we talking about the NXE update thing? I'm not even in that and I'm disappointed because people on my friends list are stuck offline, parties never work with them when in-game chat is fine, constantly being kicked from the game.

Although they did opt into it and it is a beta so I can't be too mad, I just hope it's a lot smoother come November.

People do care about the dashboard and experience of navigating UI's though Az... if they didn't the NXOE wouldn't even be a thing. This twaddle has occupied Microsoft developers' time for the past year. Phones/tablets wouldn't have options for multiple
screens with a multitude of app shortcuts if folk didn't care. Backgrounds, colour themes, and wallpapers wouldn't be a thing on virtually all our devices.

People like their experiences with devices to have custom feels. To be complex or simple depending on their tastes. Same with almost anything in life. I don't spend a great deal of time in my hallway, but it's decorated, with pictures, paint, and it's presentable
still. lol S'a decent place to spend 6 seconds walking through everyday. Ha heh.

I didn't get around to commenting on the NXOE. I'm not in the preview program and have only seen screenies and videos on YouTube, but it looks like an improvement over the Windows 8-like tiley theme that failed on Win phones and didn't /doesn't really feel
smooth on the X1. The current dash is pretty clunky if you're not talking at your Kinect. But any and all customisation options they can pump into the NXOE, over time, would be a good thing. IMO {XD

I'm downloading a 700mb DA:I update while trying to figure out what it's for online.

Glad to see you're not too busy playing games to post on the forum too though dude. =)

You only think you don't care. You care or you wouldn't leave those games you're too busy pretending your playing to comment here.

  15. I like it for the most part, and the biggest issues I run into are bug-related (for example, a butt-TON of crashing games and apps - sadly). However, there are a few things I have issue with regarding the design of the interface:

    1

There's no longer any function to snap apps via the menu button. For example, I used to be able to press the menu button with the Netflix app and choose "snap" - it's no longer there. Why not?

    2

When you have something snapped to the right side, it no longer pushes the main window to the side - it covers it. Add the new guide on the left side at the same time, and more real estate is taken up than anything we've ever had before (on the One OR the
    360) - I thought the idea was to take up as little space as possible without interrupting what we're doing? How am I supposed to play a game or watch a movie when it's covered by 2/3 of the screen in menus and other applications?

    3

I use snapped parties to see who was actually talking at any given time. Since you can no longer snap the party (it's "just in the background"), I have a harder time telling who's speaking. Sure, I can bring up the guide, but then I can't play my game at
the same time... A simple on-screen system "pop-up" when someone says something would be all that's needed to solve this (that can be optionally turned on or off for those of you who may not want it doing that).

    4

Cortana is stupid. Ask her something and you'll find out why.

    5

A LOT of older Kinect voice commands no longer work - for example, "Xbox, snap party" or "Xbox got to Upload."
