Is a game disc better than buying downloadable versions?

Hi there, here's my current setup in our household.

Consoles (all Xbox 360 Slim's with either 250 or 320 hard drives):

    • Basement
    • Family Room
    • Kid's Room
    Xbox Live Accounts:

    • Me
    Xbox Live Gold Accounts:

    • Son (iI manage parental rights)
    • Daughter (I manage parental rights)
I have never paid for and bought any downloadable games, but when we downloaded a couple of games via "Games with Gold", we were able to download to all 3 consoles and then they could play when logged into Gold no problem.

I was looking into paying for and downloading NHL 14 which is on sale for $30. At the stores, it's $60 for the disc. Obviously with the disc, we can play on any console and play on any 1 of the accounts. Games in our house often move from room to room
so the discs of course travel around.

With a download purchase, I have a few questions:

    1. Can the Gold account that purchased the game also download it to play on all 3 consoles?
    2. If I purchase/download on my son's Gold account, would my daughter be able to play the game as well when she logs in?
    3. If the game is allowed to be downloaded to all 3 consoles, can my kids concurrently play the game while logged into their respective Gold accounts?
Thanks in advance for your feedback!

    :)

Will people stick with xbox 360?

Buying the game disc and installing on the HDD is better than buying digital copy. Plus it's cheaper.

    Game download

Is it possible to download Vandal Hearts Flames of Judgement onto my Xbox one as it was a downloadable game rather than having a disc if I recall?

    1. Any account that purchases a game can redownload the game and play it on any console as long as that account is signed into Live.

    2. As long as she is playing on the same console, then yes. Your daughter could play the same game.

    3. When you download content it's tied to the gamertag that purchased it as well as the console it was purchased on. The console license allows all other profiles on a console to access the content. So the gamertag that purchases the game can download and
play on any console, but other profiles can only play on the console that has that license.

Thanks for the reply. A couple of clarificaitons:

    1. If I purchase on my son's account and initially download to the basement, and he wants to download and play in the family room, does it require un-installation from the basement? Or is it just a 2nd install?

    2. If both installations remain, can my daughter then play on the basement console (the original installed console) and then my son on the family room console?

3.) If I follow correctly, that would mean while my daughter can login and play on the basement, she would not be able to play on the family room (unless a 2 player game initiated with his login...and they are getting along and playing together).

    1. No, it's just a second install.

    2. If we're still saying your son originally downloaded the game in the basement, then yes that would work as long as your son is signed into Live on the family room console.

    3. That's correct.

Is a game disc better than buying downloadable versions?

One more question before I proceed:

Can I purchase the game on my account (which is not Gold), and then as long as I/they first log into my account on any of the consoles, will they be able to play the game using their own Gold profile?

The only reason I even have an account is so I can manage their rights via parental controls. Thanks!

Yes. Game licenses work the same whether your gold or not.

Takes a while to download NHL 14, but so far I have completed the download to 2 of the 3 consoles. Appears to be set exactly as you described.

    • Basement - Purchased on my account to this console. Can play game when directly logged in as either me, my son, or my daughter.
    • Kid's Room - Additional download to this console after logging into my account. Must be logged in to my account to play. OR logged into my account first to launch game and then my son or daughter can log in on their account with an additional controller.
They just move my controller to the middle position instead of for one of the teams. Seems to be the only workaround we've found so far (too bad it ties up a controller).
