Is 8 Hours Too Long For A Single Player Campaign?

TBH, once we factor in the variables like player skill, difficulty played on, type of game... not to mention individual expectations/preferences, time is really a poor way to judge the value of any game's campaign regardless of what kind of gamer you are.
But there's little, if anything, else to go by that isn't just as subjective.

I consider myself to be a casual player in MP, but not SP, if that makes sense. Most games I play have 4 difficulty settings and I always choose the 3rd highest to play on, my first time through. Then I'll go for the highest in another play through. Even
considering I typically have at least 2 runs through a campaign, 8 hours (if it's a good story/fun game) <shrugs shoulders... "variables"> wouldn't be long enough for me.

I had a blast on Titanfall MP, playing with friends. Look forward to it again.

 

Who cares if it's too long for casuals? It's not like they play single player anyway since it's all about mp for them. Just look at CoD and see how many players there are who have barely touched any of the campaigns but have spent lots of hrs on mp.

Arguably if you're not a casual gamer you're a bit of a moron who's taken something that used to be a great source of entertainment and turned it into something that's just not that fun anymore.

You end up with a warped sense of self.

Most self proclaimed "professional gamers" on review sites are incapable of giving an honest review from the perspective of someone who paid money for a game to be entertained.

8 hours might be a short amount of time to anyone with the time to spare.

But if you're burdened with family, friends, a social life, other hobbies besides video games and gainful employment then an 8 hour campaign could take you a month to complete if you're only gaming a couple of hours a week.

A casual gamer will pick up a game because they're fun.

A moron will avoid a game because the internet told them to.

"Is it a good game that's fun" is the question people really should be asking.

 

Purchased the first Titanfall knowing there was no campaign and was not disappointed. Dedicated M.S. servers had a lot to do with my enjoyment. If they're not using dedicated servers for Titanfall 2 I have no interest.

This thread title is misleading, because on the one hand you're asking if a SINGLE PLAYER campaign is "too long" at eight hours (where paradoxically a core player would argue it was too short), but then limiting the premise to "casual" players.

Perhaps I've been in the 'game' for too long, but I'd suggest that casual players get the campaign that they deserve, and in this respect a bulked-up narrative to draw a larger crowd would seem about right. But Titanfall 2 launches in the same window as
the other "casual" choices this season - CoD Infinite Warfare and Battlefield 1 - whose campaigns may fall into the same disposable timeframe, so the question then becomes is "eight hours too long for Titanfall 2 when you've got ADHD"?

Speaking of the number eight, time serves to remind that Microsoft once charged 800 MP to change your Gamertag. Since this thread went up yesterday, it was posted by somebody called "OMGoth I'm Hot". Another day, another GT, and you're looking at a substantial
investment! Since I've only just discovered these forums, I can't speak to the community profile at large (and therein the cult of personality), but whenever I saw a thread created by "Goth Vampirella", it felt unique, much like the tag.

But the current one? Umm, very generic. #IMO

I don't think I'm old enough to view S rated content....

I think 8 hours for TF2 is on par with Call of Duty titles where multiplayer is the bigger focus. I remember when I would buy CoD each year I made it my mission to complete veteran on the day it came out and I always would in like 10 hours and I was happy
with that.

Now if Deus Ex is 8 hours I will scorch the Earth with my rage, but I know that ain't gonna happen!

 

For me I prefer multiplayer. In COD I rarely play the campaign, however I play the campaign a bit more in halo than the multiplayer part. I mostly play multiplayer minecraft too with friends. I dont mind playing the sims 4 and planet coaster, alone as those
are awesome games on pc.

 

Remember peeps can have short attention spans too.

 

8 hours for an FPS is the norm these days - this games focus is on MP anyway, so people could and should get more than enough value for money by playing the game as its designed. In this case as a multiplayer FPS title.

It took me about 24 hours of playtime during the week to conquer the " Heroic " difficulty setting of the following games

(1) Halo: Combat Evolved --> Original Xbox

(2) Halo 2 --> Original Xbox

(3) Halo 3 --> Xbox 360

(4) Halo 3: ODST --> Xbox 360

(5) Halo: Reach --> Xbox 360

..........

With that being said, 8 hours to complete the Story Mode of a FPS game on the Normal difficulty setting is probably going to be expected play time for those who are really good at FPS games.

I'm not that good at FPS Games, so it took me a lot longer to solo the Story Modes of the games that I list above.
