Is 60fps Always Better Than 30fps?

So I've been playing the Fora Horizon 2 demo A LOT since it was released. It looks incredible. The best looking game on the Xbox One so far.

Last night I decided to finish off some races in Forza 5. As soon as I started playing I noticed something I'd never really noticed before. The frame rate. 60fps. It looks awful compared to FH2 running at 30fps. Now I know that FH2 has better AA and other
enhancements over Forza 5 but it was the frame rate specifically that stood out to me.

Forza 5 looks like you're watching through a camcorder with a high shutter speed, whereas FH2 looks like you're watching film. The difference is startling. It looks far more photo realistic at 30fps. I understand the need for high frame rates with games
like COD as it needs to handle fast response times, but if it's not a necessity, give me 30fps every time, or at least the option to switch to 30fps.

What is the idea behind 720p cross platform games?

because a game running smoothly at 720 P with a very stable 60FPS with higher quality pixels WILL ALWAYS BE BETTER than 1080P with dropping frame rates of lower quality pixels....especially when sitting on your couch 8 feet away...

I simply agreed that 1080p/60fps is better than 720p/30fps.

 

To be fair it's probably your television.

 

Most movies run at 24fps so that is why 30fps looks more movie/cinematic like.

 

To be fair and play Devil's Advocate, most, um all Movies are not Played. It's not an accurate comparison. Frame-Rate directly translates to the brains eye (the one in your head called perception) that gives a Game a certain "feel".
Movies or other passive viewing Mediums do not have this present. This can be felt as a direct relation between the Player and the Character or object they are controlling on Screen.

Now the true question is does it matter to one's own interest? For me no. As long as a Game is a Solid Frame-Rate and does not have a variable scope that interferes with the feel of the Game I could not care less if it was 30 or 60 FPS.

 

I will say that I love the way FH2 looks and feels more so then FM5. I cant wait for the full game release. Its going to be immense.

I don't understand why the grass slows you down like your driving on super glue or someting, it doesn't make any sense to me at all.

Not really. Mirror's edge at 60fps is ugly and too smooth. The 30fps gives it the "always in danger" look, with the sweeping vistas lingering a little while longer.

 

I can never tell a difference. So it does not matter to me.

 

I prefer very high frames as much as I like 3D. I see in very high frames and 3D when not playing games. Real life not 'too smooth' when truth look around.
