    IP address error??


    So I recently moved and finally have gotten my internet hooked back up. I run internet to my 360 through Ethernet cord, so I got a new cord from the guy installing it earlier. after he left I eagerly hooked the cord up and signed in. After seeing I couldn't
    connect I went and tested my network.

    This was at noon almost 4 hours ago.

    Failed sttempt sfter failed ailed attempt I have only gotten the IP address error stating I cannot obtain an IP address. I've reset my modem, I've changed ports, I've changed ends, I've turned my Xbox on and off, I've reset the network settings to factory
    settings. I've manually set it but with no prevail.

    it should be known, that I am no good with this stuff and seriously have no knowledge of what some of this stuff is and what it does.

    id any help would be appreciated!!!!

    I have a router but I have no idea about how to assign a static IP address. Do you do it through the router or through the Xbox One?

    If you have a router, give the xbox one a static IP address, make sure it's 'doled' out by it's MAC address.

    Do that and if it's still giving you problems like that, toss that static IP on a DMZ.

    Greetings Cotton!

    If you haven't already, try connect your console with a different Ethernet cable and let us know if your console is able to communicate succesfully with your router and obtain a proper IP address.

    Well I question if it's the cord (I have a friend bringing one soon)

    The reason I question it is, I hooked it up to my laptop to make sure it wasn't just the cord. But my laptop successfully connected via Ethernet cord. I hooked it back into t Xbox and it wasn't working. It's never had this problem which is why I'm baffled.
    But I will be trying a different cord soon.

    Can you run the network diagnostic on your console, and let me know if your console complain, that it needs an Ethernet cable that needs to be connected to a modem, or router.

    Go to the network settings of your console and select your connection type (wired) and select Test Xbox Live Connection.

    Okay, ChimpZealot. This is what is said for each suggestion on More Info...

    IP Address Error - The router or modem may not be automatically assigning an IP address. Try a static IP address instead.

    IP Address Error - The router or modem may not be set up to provide IP addresses. See the routers or modem's manual for steps to adjust DHCP settings.

    Hey Vesper, have you tried restoring your system to factory defaults?

    Does your console connect just fine connecting directly to the modem instead of the router?

    How about Manual IP settings?

    First let's look at your PC's settings.

    If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7: Click Start, type cmd in the search box, and press Enter. If you are using Windows XP: Click Start, click Run, type in CMD, and press Enter.

    At the prompt, type: ipconfig, and press Enter.

    Find your network connection (for example: "Local Area Connection"), and write down the following information:

    IPv4 Address

    Subnet Mask

    Default Gateway

    Make up a unique IP address for your Xbox. (For example: if your PC's address is 192.168.1.1, choose 192.168.1.11 for your Xbox.).

    Note: Each IP address on your network must be unique.

    Now go to your Xbox.

    Press the Guide button on your controller, go to Settings, and select System Settings.

    Select Network Settings, and then Configure Network.

    On the Basic Settings tab, select IP Settings, then Manual, and then IP Address.

    Enter the unique IP address that you created, and click Done.

    Select Subnet Mask, enter your PC's subnet mask, and then click Done.

    Select Gateway, enter your PC's default gateway, and then click Done.

    Click Done again to complete.

    Press B on your Xbox controller, and retest your connection.

    If manually assigning an IP address works, we know it's an issue with DHCP on your router.
