Interview: Head of Xbox Phil Spencer, Talking Xbox Series X – Unlocked 437

For those that may not already know, Ryan McCaffery of IGN did an interview with Phil Spencer yesterday on Podcast Unlocked.

Here is a summary from a user on r/xboxone:

- No price announcement

- Probably will be announced this summer because he briefly mentioned to look for preorders around that time (kind of jokingly)

- Still planning on Fall release, but have to be prepared for anything [due to Covid-19]

- He does not want to have a limited/regional release if they can't make full production

- They will not delay the release of XSX if Halo can't make day one release but it sounds like they will if they can't meet expected supply and demand. No solid plan B though.

- The marketing team is ready to make changes on price to compete with Sony

- Basically says the optical audio port was removed due to the form factor of the console, price, and research on how many actually used it in the past. Same decision for the HDMI-in and Kinect port.

- He's 100% in for multiplatform compatibility and not forcing people's hand on where to buy their games (Love the idea of cross-buy, play, progression)

- Expect a small amount of 'day one' games. He mentions the Xbox One launch, and how he feels the launch lineup was a little too crowded between first and third party releases, and goes on to say he'd like to see continuous releases instead of a couple on
one day.

- he doesn't want people to think XCloud gaming will be replacing console gaming but instead working in unison. Ryan's example was playing a game on XCloud as its installing on your console

- Phil's game of choice to bring back is 'Mechassault'

In my opinion, it was a pretty decent interview, even though he obviously cannot answer anything to specific because they already have plans for their game announcements and price of the console. I just think it was great that Phil can take some time out
of his day every now and then to do these kind of interviews, which give people some more insight into his philosophy going forward with Xbox.
