Internet required??

I have only ever had the original xbox and since have used the playstations. However I thought i would give the xbox 1 a shot and went out and bought a new one. Only to find out that it cant even be used unless you have an internet connection for the set
up? Im not sure the reasoning behind this or if im just misunderstanding something in the set up process but this requirement has already pushed me away from this series of consoles.

I suggest avoiding this requirement on any future console you make

Internet Conection

I've been having some problems with that internet connection error, too, but honestly, I don't know how I feel about disabling the firewall and/or security features of the router. I hope they release a patch soon that will fix the problem.

 

Internet Explorer

I don't have my keyboard for my controller, so I have no need for the IE on there. Good to know its a productive app though.

That's not going to happen.

The very reason the console needs an update is because without it, various pirating a modding communities would have a much easier time of getting Xbox consoles to run illegal pirated games. The same is true with PS4.

 

After the initial setup you can take the console offline and continue to play your disc games without a connection if you prefer. It is the initial setup that requires the connection.

 

I understand having internet allows the full use of games and appliances but when you make it a requirement your pushing away consumers. The playstation as far as I remember can always be used even through set up with no internet. And no its not going
to make it easier for people to hack games, the hacked games come from pirate sites that allow you to download to disks or hardrives and are recognized on the console as a normal copy. What your thinking of is propbably people modding the consoles like they
did with the ps3, but that required the use of internet. I bought this brick to use while i move into my new place, and now i cant until i get internet. From my side of the issue there is no reason to continue with this series of consoles when i can just go
back to the ps4 that allows offline use. From a marketing standpoint this requirement is going to hold xbox below the playstations no matter how you want to look at it cause internet is not always readily available for all consumers

 

Yeah, I found the requirement for internet for the initial setup process a bit disconcerting as well. Personally, this doesn't effect me, but I completely get where you're coming from.

You are just spending a lot of money for what is normal

If you dontwanrt a day 1 patch

Well unfortunately you will havw to go back to xbox 360 and ps3 days and no get newer games

As the others have mentioned its only when you initially setup the console as you need to have an ms or ps account to setup the console regardless if its ps4 xbox or the switch

As people mentioned its only for the initial install or digital downloads which you need both psn or xbox live updates and even on switch

Games will not play without certain updates and this DOES INCLUDE disk games and console irrevelvant

This isnt 1996

Games continue to add features and stability fixes for offline use past disk release

You will be hardpressed to find a game regardless of console that doesnt require a update even after launch disk or digital download or certain firmware

And guess who made this famous

SONY and yes disk games require certain firmware versions COD comes to mind that needs a day 1 patch to play online and sometimes evwn offline for the firmware patch

even the nintendo switch first party games usually require a day one patch

 

And as I have already mentioned the requirement of internet for initial start up is the major issue. Im not looking for the full experience of the console or select games, i just want to be able to turn this brick on and use a disc. This becomes impossible
though with microsofts internet wall in the initial set up. And no the playstations do not require internet for set up, its only required to use online features. And the only games that will not play without updates are those using online features. I realize
your a fanboy based off your frusterated attack but this post has has maintained a level of maturity so lets keep it that way if you plan to add any input

 

Nope as I do have not one but three ps consoles I suggest you educate yourself instead of accusing people

I own two ps4s and a vita and I had a psp and a nintendo switch and a snes classic and only one xbox one what more proof do you want ?

And even myself and other ambassadors who have both consoles

Fyi the activation deactivates the always on drm in the os on both consoles hence why you need the patch.

The ps4 is not the same as the ps3

Its more connected and very sneaky it will sometimes auto update on you

You are guessing since you dont have a ps4 yet yes you dont need to be always on on xbox or ps4 but for the inutal setup and firmware you do

The PS4 you get right out of the box is factory edition. It is always loaded with an old Firmware that you need to update. Now some games require a few extra features to be able to run and for them the update
is required.

In case of Fifa (since it is a bundled edition) that wont be a big deal. But if you buy other games like Battlefield 4 ( The physical edition and not the digital edition from Playstation Store) then you might
need tons of updates for the game to give you a stable gameplay.

Updates are always mandatory before running a game because some games tend to crash in an old firmware.

As we say updates are mandatory reguardless of disc or digital

 

Im not sure what your looking for, most people own multiple consoles i have all the playstations and regularly use the ps4. You can even do a quick google search along the lines of "ps4 set up no internet" that will bring you to multiple sites letting
you know that internet is not required for the initial set up. Which is where the problem comes for the xbox being opposite in that it requires internet for the initial set up. This isnt a discussion of online features and the use of internet so updates, downloads,
etc.. do not pertain to the problem i have run into and brought up. However this also isnt a
[Mod Removed - Profanity] match between xbox and playstation fanboyism, the original post conveyed my thoughts on why i was instantly pushed away from supporting this series of consoles and a suggestion to improve future ones so others and
myself do not run into the same situation. If you cant understand that then i think your here for purposes other than adding input to the message this post was directed at.

 

You're correct. I don't believe my PS4 had a mandatory update, or my upgrade to the PS4 Pro. There's no technical reason why the Xbox One can't be made to 'just work' from power on. I'm not going to argue to the toss here, this clearly isn't very good
position for users who are lacking either a decent Internet connection, or indeed a connection at all.

I'm pretty sure the Switch doesn't need a mandatory update either. During set-up you are asked to connect to WiFi, but this can be skipped. I know, I have one of these too.

There is a question of whether this is due to anti-piracy, or the echo system MS originally sent up for the Xbox One. Which requires, for some undetermined reason, a new machine to be online and registered their end, even if it's only during the initial
set-up. You even need a Microsoft account just sign in, even if you have no intention of using it online. This isn't a requirement on PlayStation consoles.

Being new to the Xbox system, you may or may not remember that when Microsoft first announced the Xbox One, it was originally planned to be always online, there was even speculation that you wouldn't even be able to trade-in disc Xbox games. Microsoft made
a u-turn on this at launch, but the mandatory update and a Microsoft account remains unfortunately.

 

It shouldn’t be much of a problem. You can use the mobile data on your phone and conmect to xbox live that way. No need to even have an internet connection in your house for set up.
