International gifted codes

How do I redeem gifted codes from outside my region? I was gifted 2 games, but can't redeem them because they're outside my region. I'm from the US, and the gifter is in Canada. Seems rather weird.

Most likely it is because of this. See if gifter can still return the games for a refund.

If the recipient receives the following error message: “Contact the seller to get a code that works in your region. The code was purchased in a different region and cannot be redeemed”, this means that givers and recipients must always be in the same
country or region. If not, you can return the item for a refund.

Unfortunately digital games are region locked. You must be in the same country as it was originally purchased from to redeem it.

I just bought a Canadian friend a game via the marketplace buy as a gift option. Maybe you can get them a game instead (just a thought). Also there was an option on the 360 to gift money to friends but not sure if the option is still there. If you have a
360 maybe you could go that route.
