    Internal Hard drive ticking


    A few years ago, my original xbox one had an issue with the eject button and I decided to replace it with an X. I put in to storage for safe keeping just in case. Now I want to use the original for elsewhere but when it boots up the console starts ticking
    sounding from the fan, after some short research, I had been informed that it was my Internal Hard Drive with the "hard drive tick of death". How can I fix this issue so I may be able to use the console without the worry of potential banning for modding the
    console or the issue of the console's hard drive fully dying on me? Am I now stuck with getting an external hard drive or can I do something else to prevent issues? I do not want to have to send it away.

    Lost Captures

    So using the internal hard drive for captures is a ticking time bomb at this point.

    It works for a while, but eventually it'll just blow and delete them all with no means to know when.

    If I understand this right, at least.

    Suppose I'll have to start backing my files up on a monthly basis, or buy a 2nd external hard drive for captures.

    Frustrating.

    You can always add an external hard drive for more storage.

    Is it possible that a malicious person bought the 1TB console, and swapped it with their own 500GB model, then returned the box to Best Buy for some made up reason.

    Then the Best Buy employee just confirmed that there is "a" console in the box not "the" console that was originally in it, and returned it to the shelf.

    Then you bought the 500GB console with the 1TB box?

    Try to register the console on
    https://devicesupport.microsoft.com     and check if the description there mentions a 500GB hard drive or 1TB hard drive.

    If you got a 500GB console in a 1TB box, return the console to Best Buy and explain it to them.

    Sometimes over time machines will slow down. A reset to factory defaults may help that situation. As far a the hard drive going out just like anything they will eventually fail but that does not sound like what is happening here.
