    Internal 4GB memory is corrupted. How do I switch everything to alternate drive?


    About a month ago I was prompted to perform an update on my XBox 360 and received an error message when I tried to install it from XBox live. After attempting to update from XBox live a few times, attempting to update from a USB drive, and talking to tech
    support several times it has been determined that my 4gb internal memory is hosed...

    So my question is can I switch my primary memory from the internal 4GB to an external device such as a USB drive or an external HD? If so, how?

    I have cleared the cash, tried to move all of the non-corrupted profiles to a different drive, I have tried to delete all of the corrupted data from the 4GB internal memory but when I restart to begin the installation everything is right back where it was.
    We have had the system for about 13 months so, of course, it is out of warranty.

    Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

    My Xbox 360 S is freezing! HELP!

    My Xbox 360 S 4gb is freezing in the start up. I know what happened, my 4gb internal memory is corrupted. I wrote a post here like 2 months ago, and they give me a verified answer..... "You can use a 250gb hard drive while your 4gb is corrupted."..........
    I take a look on how much a 250gb hard drive cost. Its very expensive. So... I'm thinking, if I can use my USB Hard drive... so instead of my Xbox 360 booting to the corrupted 4gb, it will boot to the USB hard drive.... WILL THAT WORK????

    Error when trying to update

    Taidara, yes, it is the xbox slim with 4gb internal memory. I moved everything to a 250gb hard drive, then reformatted the internal memory, but still cannot successfully update my xbox.

    Hi, sadly the Xbox will need to be sent in to the service centre for repair, Please follow the instructions on the link below to register your Xbox and start the repair process.

    support.xbox.com/.../getting-your-product-serviced

    The Xbox always looks for a primary storage device to install systems updates and in your case that is the faulty internal memory unit, until that is fixed there is no way to update the Xbox, it is also not possible to switch which storage device is the
    used as the primary storage device.

    I have tried most of those options already.

    I suspected the 4GB of internal memory was corrupted some how, so I opened my Xbox 360 up to see if that was replaceable.

    After opening the device I found the 4GB of internal memory and removed it and booted the device without it. My issue was solved immediately, but i had no storage devices to save anything to. The dashboard loaded immediately and even asked to install an update. I could access everything without it freezing.

    Do you offer replacements for the 4GB internal memory module? Or would leaving that chip out and using an external hdd bypass that memory entirely?

    Skate.Reel on Skate 3 gives error "This requires an xbox hard drive" with new slim model...Is not a matter of having live gold or not

    The 4gb Slims do not have a HDD by default. The 4gb is internal memory and acts as a memory unit/usb drive and is not counted/recognized as an HDD.

    That the games asks where to save their information. If you could disable the internal memory in the system settings so the games doesn't even see the internal memory then everything would be fixed and the game would simply use the external hard drive and
    not even bother to ask the user because that would be the only available drive currently active. I do not need the 4GB of internal memory when now I have installed a 320GB drive that I will never fill up; and if I ever do I'll simply turn back on the internal
    memory which I know for a fact I would never do.
