Intermittent sound on xbox one s when playing games

I've been experiencing an intermittent sound issue when playing games. The sound will work fine, then cut out for a few minutes then come back again and work fine for 20 minutes then cut out again and so on. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to it.

I've tried a different set of headphones plugged into the controller and it did the same thing, so assumed it's not the headphones. I've tried playing a different game and it also did the same thing, so not game specific. I can only assume then that's it's
system related, either box itself or controller.

Standard xbox one s, controller that came with the box. System up to date with latest system update, game up to latest version. Xbox itself is less than 6 months old.

Does anyone have any thoughts on what I could try to cure this problem? Otherwise I'm packing it up and taking it back to the shop as it's still under warranty.

Thanks for your suggestion. I've arranged to borrow a friends spare controller at the weekend so I'll test that and see if the problem recurs. Having reset the box as per someone else's suggestion it seems much better, but I'll monitor it.

Thanks for your suggestion. There are no kinect devices attached, it's just a standard xbox one s, with controller, nothing else connected.

can you borrow a different controller to confirm whether the problem is with the Xbox or the controller?

if it works fine on a different controller then you will need to get the controller repaired/replaced (standard warranty is 90 days but some retailers have a longer warranty if you didn't get it direct from Microsoft/Xbox)

if the problem continues with a different controller then you should set get it replaced under warranty.

Thanks for your suggestion. I've tried that and it seems much better, time will tell if it solved the problem completely!

It might just be worth going to take it back for the warranty.

You can however try a power cycle, all you have to do is, while the console is on, hold the power button for 10 seconds until turns off. Unplug the cord at all connection points for at least 15 seconds. Once that is done plug it in and power it up.
