Intermittent lag spikes while Xbox game streaming to PC

All of my devices are connected via Ethernet to a switch, switch is connected to the router, router is then connected to the modem. My Xbox, Windows 10, and Xbox app are all current versions. I can stably play games on my PC, I can also stably play games
on my Xbox. The problem is when I play Xbox games via the Xbox app on my PC. Everything runs fine for the first hour or two and then the lag spikes start. At which point I cancel and restart streaming and the lag spikes occur every couple of minutes until
I reset the console or the whole system including the networking equipment and PC which starts the whole cycle over again from the beginning.

Of note, this follows the same pattern as the app crashes that seemed to have been fixed in the latest update. Also, the lag spike cycles are present on the Beta version of the app as well, the beta app is also the current version.

Any ideas or further information I can provide?

My Xbox One S is laggy

In Online games, my Xbox One S has these random lag spikes (A LOT). I use to have a Xbox One, and I never had these problems. Once I got the Xbox One S, the problem started to happen.

Lag Description: Everything else freezes in place, but my character is able to move around. The spike happens from 1 to sometimes 4 seconds. Once the spike clears, my characters jumps back to where he was before he started lagging, and all the enemies teleport
to where they traveled to while I was lagging. This lag spikes happens about every 15 minutes. Please help me fix the problem.

 

Can you make sure you've taken the Win 10 Anniversary update too?

 

Yes I have, as mentioned Windows 10 is current, Xbox is current, and both the beta and standard version of the Xbox app are current.

That's alright. If you say you've at least taken the Anniversary update, I believe it.

Are you using any third party anti-viruses or firewalls?

No, I am not using third party firewall or anti virus. Windows fire wall is active. Windows defender is also active and now back to running with real time protection turned on. I had tried to run it with out real time protection as I have read it can
cause conflicts but lag spikes are present with or with out it. Also, windows defender likes to turn back on real time protection without asking, probably after updates?

Can you also try streaming on a lower quality? You could also file feedback from the app, but the quality setting will tell us some too.

Sure thing, for reference I stream at high, I thought the instability might be a stream quality issue and haven't streamed at very high in a while. As soon as I get a chance I will switch down to medium and see what happens, I will do it on the standard
app.

 

I Just played for a few hours at medium streaming quality without incident. Not quite sure we can call that significant yet but it is promising. When I have longer to play I will switch between streaming qualities and see if that affects the occurrence
of lag spikes.

That said, any clues on possible fixes or at least what might be the culprit?

 

It's would focus on your network or graphics card/driver. If it works better on a lower setting, there is probably to much traffic or a bottleneck somewhere. You might be using an old router or older hardware. You could also try reinstalling your graphics
driver to see if that's the issue lies there.

Doubt that would be the issue but I will look further into streaming quality to try and confirm, I will also reinstall graphics drivers and see. Have you heard any conflicts with current nvidia drivers version 372.90 or previous version, they just updated
again within the last week?

Everything else works well on the network including streaming 4k content via streaming service as well as playing HD content from my PC to TV over network. My point is if I was having bottleneck problems I should see symptoms else where as well and not just
when I am streaming xbox to pc. Also all, networking gear is no more than a year old and a bit overkill for its use.

I will try to narrow it down over the next couple of days and report, cheers and thank you for your continued help. Looking forward to figuring this out.
