Intermittent disc drive issues

Hello

Someone please help/advise.

Since today i have been having issues with the disc drive in my X1, first of all it would play Amazing Spiderman 2 on Blu ray, but would play others. Now i can sometimes get it to play AS2 but not others and now its occasionally not playing games, such as
Destiny.

Up until now i have had no issues with my Xbox One whatsoever, but today has really made me lose my faith in this brand a little. I have tried all the usual diagnostics and the issue is still there.

Is this an issue caused by the most recent update?

Is anyone able to help? This is EXTREMELY frustrating.

Intermittent disc drive problems

I very rarely watch DVDs on this console, but I threw one in today and saw no issues after about ten minutes.

Definitely started before the February console update. I think it was sometime after the Fall (metro) dashboard update, but it's possible that I had the occasional issue before that and it has just worsened over time. It definitely didn't start immediately
after the Fall update or I would have correlated.

This console does get a lot of use, several hours per day. Sometimes on for 12+ hours straight on weekends. I install pretty much all games to hard drive, so the disc drive shouldn't be doing much on a regular basis.

Hello, folks. My Xbox 360 S 250GB is having intermittent disc drive problems. Often the drive works normally, but there are several problem scenarios:

1. When inserting a disc or starting the console the disc may sometimes be unrecognized. This can be fixed by opening and closing the tray one or more times. Occurs with multiple game discs. A couple times I have received error code "03-57-00", but often
it just says the disc is unrecognized, or doesn't detect a disc.

2. When quitting a game (returning to the dashboard) the system may hang. At this point you can hear the disc drive seeking repeatedly. This can be fixed by opening and closing the tray. Occurs with multiple game discs.

3. When launching or quitting an application the system may hang. Typically Hulu Plus or Netflix, though those are the most common apps in use, so it is probably not limited to them. Again at this point you can hear the disc drive seeking repeatedly. This
can be fixed by opening and closing the tray. Occurs with multiple game discs.

I have (permanently) removed a USB flash drive and have cleared the system cache to no effect. The dashboard update from this week also has had no effect.

The console is out of warranty. I can do an out of warranty repair, but I'm concerned that since the problem is intermittent it might not be found.

At least yours isnt randomly marking up your discs now.

Yes, i have tried these diagnostics. Surely this must be software related? This has only started happening SINCE the update and others are also having similar and identical issues (even down to the type of blu ray being used)

 

You know it's amazing how many threads are being posted lately about issues with destiny.. I wonder if this halo 3 all over again. (If you remember the halo 3 games locking up the 360's). I had issues the other day where my system didn't want to read a disc
on the first try but if I unplugged the system from the power cord and then turn it back it worked normal. Now so far games are working in the first try. I did read some odd ideas like erasing your profile from the system (no idea wtf that would do but I tried
it anyway) and then logging back in to it. Also the universal recommendation on here is to clear your cache by holding the power button. Other people have reported a lot of issues since the September update. have you tried other movies out?

 

If you are like me, you disc drive will stop working. I believe you are having the signs of a disc drive failure. That is what happened to me. My disc drive wouldn't play any Blu ray movies, but I could play games and watch DVD movies. Then it would play
a Blu ray. Everything was fine. Then it wouldn't play Blu Ray movies no more, couldn't play games because it would always say, "please insert disc" and in the main screen would say "no disc present".

I used the chat feature here for customer support, took 2 1/2 hours at 2am, did everything he suggested, and finally they sent me a UPS to get my xbox shipped and "repaired".

So you will need to contact customer support. It seems they are having issues with the disc drive. While not a lot of people are having it, enough people are. My guess would be in the 1000s if not 10 000 bad disc drives in the millions made and shipped.
