Interface Unresponsive

I turned on my Xbox One today, put Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and attempted to play. Nothing happened. Fearing it was a disc drive issue, I ejected the disc and put it in once more. Nothing. I did the same thing again and listened, and the disc drive
sounded the exact same way as it always does when reading a disc. Instead of playing a game, I attempted to go into an app such as Netflix, or my Friends list. The interface would not respond, simply make the sounds that go off when you select an app. So I
attempted to turn the Xbox off, only to have the "On" button flash repeatedly. I unplugged it the power cable, then plugged it back in, and everything worked fine after that.

Is this a normal issue, or is there something else going on? Is it a Live issue? My warranty still has quite a few months left, incase it is required.

RIP decent Xbox forums. At least my 360 console is still going strong, albeit with an extremely slow and unresponsive user interface.

 

'A' button on controller is sometimes unresponsive

The Xbox One controller which came with my Kinectless Xbox One yesterday has one problem.

The 'A' button is roughly 10% of the time unresponsive when I press it, and I use the same force as always. The problem isn't too bad though, as I believe it only happens when in menu's or interfaces. I was playing FIFA 15 and while in-game during a match,
I think the A button was working perfectly, always responding. But when I go back to a menu or interface the occassional lack of response occurs again when pressing the 'A' button.

Is this normal, should I request a replacement controller?

 

These weird glitches may happen from time to time. It's usually a result of using the "instant on" mode, where the console goes to sleep instead of turning off completely. If you're having unexplained issues with the console, you can hold your finger on
the power button (on the console itself) for about 8 seconds and that will force a full shutdown, so when you turn it back in it'll do a full boot up instead of waking up from sleep.

If you're in the preview program it's also a good idea to use the feedback reporting tool if something like this happens, so that the devs can look at the logs and see what caused it.

So yeah, I'd just put it down to a system software bug, considering pulling the power and doing a full reboot cleared it.

 

That is why I went to "Energy Saver" after two days; I have never had a problem since...100% flawless.

Me as well, I do not use instant on anymore. Fresh boot for every gaming session and I don't have any issues that way.

 

Yeah every couple of weeks I have to do a full hard reset, sort almost everything out. I never know if it's a preview problem or just seems like the cache gets full and needs a reset. Usually a result from bad coding and not clearing the cache properly.

 

The problem with the energy saver setting though is that it doesn't download updates overnight, so theoretically you could log on one evening to play Destiny, only to find a 3gig update needs to be downloaded.

 

So far I haven't had an update stop me for more than 15 minutes. There are ups and downs either way. What we need is a "Restart" option. So we can use instant on and just reboot it if there's a need. Or, reboot it once a day or something as a preventative
measure.

Yes, you can hold the power button to do this, but I prefer the "Graceful" shutdown method.

 

^^^Actually, there is now a reboot option for the console, which was added last update I believe. It's in settings > power options. Mine has been in instant on mode for quite awhile and it's much easier to just reboot the console now, if things get a little
slow or glitchy.

 

I have mine in instant on, I think I have had to do a hard reset maybe 6-7 times in the last year. Are you guys quiting apps when your done with them? I always make sure I quit everything...eg, achievements, friends tab etc...etc..

YW. It works pretty well... does the same thing as holding the power button until it shuts down, except for it restarts on its own, which is nice.

I agree with Goatsnatcher on quitting apps. I almost always quit them as soon as I'm done with them, which seems to help keep things running more smoothly between restarts. I really wish they'd add a 'quit all' option. A lot more people would probably use
that if it were a feature and it'd be a lot more convenient than quitting them separately. At least now we can restart the way it should be done, which I do pretty regularly anyway.

 

Which is another reason I prefer Energy Saver; do not want things updating without my approval. Take Killer Instinct for example...It's been wanting a 6Gb update since season two released, I may want to play a few games here and there (Offline), but I don't
like it well enough to update. Most months I'm close to my cap and others I go over; 6Gb of data serves me better for another high def movie rather than a game I rarely play.
