Taxes are a part of life and now that MS is using the currency system it must be charged on all purchases.

First, check and validate the currency on your account. Please sign in to https://account.microsoft.com/billing/payments then validate if it's visible from there with the correct amount.

Once confirmed, try buying the game again.

You need enough to cover any sales taxes as well as the purchase price.

There are no additional sales taxes in the United Kingdom. The price on the Xbox Store includes tax (or VAT as we call it) for UK users.

@Henry Perry. Have you attempted your purchase on the Xbox.com website instead of the console?

The phone support person is incorrect. That is the way when using currency on the xbox marketplace. Currency cannot be used when purchasing on the website though.

You can use prepaid cards for one time purchases but they will not work with subscriptions even if they have money on them. The system will not use prepaid cards for subscriptions
