Instructions Manuals that comes with Disc Games, do you miss them?

So true. The kids today know nothing of "New Game Smell".

Personally, I think that the reason that there are no more instruction manuals in disc games is because they (the game publishers) save a lot of money by not making them anymore.

In regards to the fact that it is more environmentally friendly, I'd say that this was an unforseen side effect rather than a desired effect.

I miss the manuals from the past though many games still have them. Witcher 3 is a good example of content, manuals and maps etc etc. The gta series with maps and radio station guides, better than anything provided by digital format.

 

I can't think of the last time I bought a disc. I don't miss disc or manuals.

Um not really, the Physical Disc cannot connect anymore with a non-existent Server then a Digital Version. I'm not sure what version you played that if you have a Disc it can still be played on a shut down Server?

 

never read a game manual in my life. I'd feel like i was rubbish at gaming if i had to go to the instruction manual for anything. Not missed at all.

 

Not really. I used to read them while I sat on the toilet but now I just use my phone.

 

Not every game needs a manual. Controls across titles have become pretty much univerally the same and most tend to have an in game codex for information.

What I'd like to see is more spinoff media. Books, comics, TV shows etc, all set in the game's universe.

I loved what Defiance did with the show and game. A shame neither of them lived up to their potential however.

 

Private servers? I suppose the same could be said about digital copies, but my guess is M.S. will scramble the code on the hard drive before shutting the servers down for good; unless there is a burner inside my X Box One, my guess is the information on
the disc is safe.

 

Digital has it's place, just not in my home. Unless of course we are talking about torrents on the pc master race.

 

I don't think SP games even use servers do they?? So even if the MP side goes down at least with a disc you can run through a campaign...

Both of these reflect each other so I thought I would address both.

Disc or not, Digital or not has zero impact on if a SP portion of a Game can be played or not if a Server is used and it is shut down. The Disc is a method of transport and nothing more. The Digital Information on the Disc itself, the Content is the same as
if it is purely Digital Download that would resided on a Local Hard Drive.

If a Game requires a Server Connection, Disc or Digital and that Server is shut down both Content delivery methods become obsolete. And yes, there are SP Games that use Severs. To which extent the Game, Digital or Disc can still be played will vary by Developer
and by Game. Some may still work, while others will not get past the Title Screen.

Sorry but pretending it is on a Disc isn't going to save a Game from working if it relies on a Server.

 

In the highly unlikely event of a single player game on disc becoming unplayable (not counting 2 current racing games) due to servers than at least hacking becomes an option. If your digital game gets blocked or unavailable to re download than you are stuffed.

 

By all means please feel free to tell that to Error 37 and the tens of thousands of Gamers who could not play a SP portion of a Game.
