"Instant On" versus "Energy Saver"...my findings.

First let me start off by mentioning my launch console has been on Energy Saver since day 3 because of similar experiences...

Several months ago purchased a second console and decided to try Instant On as a comparison; here are "my" results.

The console in Energy Saver is FLAWLESS in operation! Lol. With that being said I will list some of the niggling problems with Instant On enabled; all of the below listed were fixed with a "Restart".

Games not updating while console in low power mode.

    Strict NAT.

    Slow U.I.

Not being able to start a game or App.

Starting a game/App and having it "dashboard".

    Controller disconnecting.

Bricking the internet for all devices in the house including the V.O.I.P. phone.*

*Seriously! Knocked 3 laptops, 2 smart phones, a networked printer, and phones offline. First time it happened thought it was a glitch with my router and reset it accordingly; after a few more times, figured out the X1 was the problem. Just by restarting
the X1, ALL devices came back online without resetting the router.

Still plan on keeping one console in Instant On mode just for the auto updates and digital game downloads in the background; plus it's easier/faster for me to move said updates/games to the other console using a external.

    My thoughts anyway, J.R.

    :)

I only use energy saver mode purely because it's an more reliable way to use the console.

Mines been instant on since Nov 13 with almost none of those issues, had a game not load before but that's usually the disc not the console.

  6. My console's been on always-on mode. Maybe that's why I'm having so many problems lately... I'll have to give energy-savings mode a try.

I have found the console in Instant On starts experiencing more problems when game/app jumping; when primarily playing/using the same game or app, the problems are minimal.

It should be noted I also changed the roles between the two consoles and it was always the console in instant on that acted up. Should also be noted it wasn't a daily thing, more of a 2 to 3 week cycle.

    Peace, J.R.

well if you think about how complex all CPU's are, they truly are amazing at the speeds they run at, the CPU will be correcting its self a silly amount of type per second with cache, and predictive branching accuracy etc, so over a long period of time glitch's
can pop up, so to help minimise this happening like I always use energy saver mode

All CPU's either AMD or Intel suffer from some form of Errata

  10. Yeah, no instant on here. Over time it does cause issues. My desktop, laptop, and other PC had issues as well with the way Windows 8 shut down. Windows 8 was not a full shutdown, early on at least, and would save some files to help with faster startup
times. Would not be long before issues popped up like the start screen not loading, crashed, etc. I created a desktop shortcut to the full shutdown to eliminate that issue. I think it was fixed with Windows 8.1 but I just kept using the shortcut I created.
Seems similar here with instant on. Whatever the system keeps stored for faster startup and stuff is eventually causing issues. At least for some, my 3 consoles included.

I think MS is going to have to streamline the instant on a little more. Clean it up a little. Wondering how they improve on that when they get the next big update and new U.I. out.

I have found similar issues using PC's that are never shut down some of them using ECC ram etc, it's not like My Xbox One is an Mission Critical Device that Needs to be on or something drastic will happen that will effect my life or health.

waiting for the console to boot up does not bother me in the least ... again that's just me though
