Instant on mode with and Ext HDD.

    Instant on mode with and Ext HDD.


    i have a 5TB Seagate External HDD that i have all my games run off of. In the settings theres a check box next to "turn off storage when xbox is off" or something. does that mean that downloads and updates will not save to my Ext HDD? and if i uncheck that
    box does that mean that it will stay on? it have a noticible running sound and itsannoying when theres nothing else on (like at night.)

    or would it be better to leave it at energy saver mode?

    Game update.

    Is the game installed on your Console HDD or an Ext HDD? I had issues before with games that were originally installed on the console and then moved over to the Ext HDD

    XBox One Ext. Hard Drive won't read since update

    @BroylesizB34ST, I am sorry to hear that. I just went ahead and reformatted my ext with windows 8 partition manager. I am now working on re-downloading everything. This is extremely frustrating but maybe, if you have more patience than me, they will come
    out with a fix for it or something. I know that my xbox was set to instant on mode, with the option checked to turn off my hdd when my console is off, my thought is, maybe because my hdd was off during the update, it somehow effected it being read?

    Instant on mode with and Ext HDD.

    It will not stay on the whole time but will start up if there are updates available.

    i just did a "test". first i left the box labled "When xbox is off, turn off storage" and for about 5 mins the both my xbox and HDD wasquiet then the LED on the HDD turned on. ok fine. then after about 10 -15seconds it turned off. then again 10 seconds later
    it turned on. so i listened and every 10 seconds it would spin up and then turn off. i waited for about 20 mins seeing if it would stp but it never did. then i went and unchecked the box and the same thing. would spin my HDD up for 10 secs then turn off for
    10 secs. it doesnt take a genius to tell that somthing is wrong with that. thereis no reason it should make the HDD turn on and off every 10 seconds.

    Untill this stupid instant on mode is fixed ill be stuck with the ever worse energy saver mode. and yes i ubderstand if it weredownloading something it would do that. but i shouldnt. if it wereto be downloading something it shouldnt turn the HDD on and off
    every 10 seconds!!

    External HDD problem

    I would assume it is to do with the instant on mode, so that the Xbox can read the data for the instant resume mode for the games.

    You could change the power mode to see if the HDD turns off just to see.
