    Instant On: Is the fan supposed to run while console is powered down?


    Hello, I chose the Instant On feature, but I hear a fan going even though the console is "off" and has been for hours. I think it may be coming from the brick, as other users have mentioned on various social media forums (e.g. Podcast Unlocked on Facebook).
    My chat with the MS support team indicated this was normal, but a fellow forum member (Podcast Unlocked) received a tweet from Xbox Support that said any loud noise coming from the power brick is not normal. So I'm confused. Should I or shouldn't I be hearing
    the sound of a fan despite my console being off/low-power state for hours?

    Instant on game updates

    on the Xbox one, Xbox one S, and Xbox one X the instant on feature is supposed to allow for the console to perform any updates while the console is off. This feature has not worked in a long while. Games, apps and the console itself does not update while
    powered off in this mode.

    Hi there,

    To clarify, when your Xbox One X console is powered off, are you seeing the ability to connect to your Xbox One X console? We tested this on our end while the console was set to Instant-On power mode, and there is no option to connect to the console while it
    is powered off and the SmartGlass app does not retain the connection to the console while the console is not powered on.

    For NAS specific issues, we'd recommend creating a new Support thread as that may lead down a different path of troubleshooting steps.

    Hi there that fan in the power brick is supposed to run it keeps the power brick cool due to it always running all the time. In short yes it's normal.

    Hi, the fan inside the console spins slowly in Instant on mode, maybe that's what you're hearing. If you listen to the console where the vents are on the top you'll hear it for sure. You shouldn't hear any loud noise coming from the power supply though.

    Hi, the fan inside the console spins slowly in Instant on mode, maybe that's what you're hearing. If you listen to the console where the vents are on the top you'll hear it for sure. You shouldn't hear any loud noise coming from the power supply though.

    The console itself is quite, but my power brick definitely has a fan noise running while in "instant-on" mode.

    Boot up time with external HDD takes about double the time than without. Is that normal?

    The hdd does not run all the time when in instant on!

    The only thing that "runs" is the power pack fan.

    Unplugging the console while set to Instant On is fine. The console is in "stand by" while in Instant On so is pulling very little power compared to when it is fully on. You can of course power down the console by pressing and holding the Xbox logo on the
    front of console until it shuts down and the power brick light turns orange before unplugging if you really want but it isn't a requirement.

    I would suggest unplugging from the wall rather than pulling the cable out of the console or power brick while it is still plugged in though.
