Instant On - external harddrive spinning up every two minutes

My Xbox One X is set to Instant On. Every two mintues the external USB hard drive will spin up and then go off again. Its consistently every two minutes - even when I I have the option ticked to send the harddrive to sleep.

I've tried 3 different drives, all with the same result. Is this an Xbox software bug? I am concerned this will impact the lifespan of an connected harddrive.

I keep my console set to Instant-on also and used to experience the constant spinning up and down of external drives also.

I believe the option that I changed to stop constant spin-up and down was by navigating to Settings/Power & Startup/Power Mode & Startup and unchecking "When Xbox is off, turn off storage."

The result will be that your external drives will spin when the console is standing by, but I think for my own purposes I'd rather have that than the wear and tear of the drives constantly spinning up and down.

Thanks - I've already tried checking and unchecking that option and it made no difference unfortunately. Guess im going to just stick to energy saving mode.

I think this is to frequently check for game updates

One of the reasons why I do not like instant on. I prefer to do my updates manually. Internet is becoming faster, so you won't wait so long for a system update to finish

If your console is set to instant on power mode you may find it is the harddrive operating due to an update
