My ps3, which is a 250 gb super slim. Plays all my games - minus dlc, streight from the disc. I guess if what you guys say is correct, then I must have a magical ps3 super slim that I bought for $50.00 some 3 years ago.

If it is magical, then I'll sell it to either of you two for the low low price of 12.3 Million Euro's.

Just think, for that low low price, you could own a 1 of a kind magical gaming system.

Disclaimer: Will not play 4K Ultra blu ray disc's. 1 game of 32 tested does have to dl partially to the hdd. But a partial dl of content does not constitute a full dl of the game itself.

Offer to sell my ps3 was a joke, however if you wish to actually pay 12.5 Million Euro's for it I promise not to laugh... At least untill after the $ clears and is deposited into my bank account.

    Have a nice day.

Store bought games don't use DRM because you have to have the disc in to play the game, that's the "DRM" right there, the fact that YOU NEED THE DISC TO PLAY IT.

Seriously mate, take the tinfoil hat off and listen to what people are telling you, BLU RAYs are simply not fast enough at streaming data, doesn't matter if you believe it or not, that is FACT.

Just look at the transfer rates of a BLU RAY drive as opposed to your HDD, its night and day, and yet games still have problems streaming the data required.

Even last gen MS released an update to allow games to be installed to the 360 hard drive because games were becoming too large and it was a way to significantly speed up the load times vs reading from disc.

Considering the size of games this gen, it shouldn't be too hard to figure out that attempting to play from the disc would result in a miserable experience filled with loading screens that take several minutes.

So yes, Electro is right that it's the industry "wanting" things this way. It's obviously all a conspiracy by developers and hardware manufacturers to make sure your experience is fun instead of an unbearable train wreck.

What I have been looking (search engines) for 'mate,' to no avail. Is ANY reperable optical drive manufacture clearly saying that they cannot produce a blu ray optical drive capable of keeping up with the demands of current gen game discs.

So you'll forgive me for not taking your word for it, nor that of clickbait opinionated (fake news) websites.

Why would you even think it makes sense for a manufacturer to post articles about that type of thing on their website? It's just not necessary for them. Anyone even a little tech savvy just has to look at the numbers, it's not rocket science.

Not much anyone else can do to help you understand if you're just going to write off every website that says you're wrong.

  6. Yes, it is obvious, at least to me that if say. EA and other devs wants to sell more games, they'll PUSH for digital which, as I understand it cannot be resold. A good excuse for doing so it to put out propaganda, (Clickbait) which minions will then take
as "The Gospel Truth" and contend that optical drives are incapable of keeping up with Blu Ray game Discs. FORCING you to have to DL each and every game to the HDD. Which like you, I don't mind doing, but wouldn't you rather have a CHOICE as opposed be being
FORCED to wait for hours on end to dl a game to the hdd before playing?

I have been searching around for a laptop, but none of the stores around me even have a laptop with a optical drive. Whats wrong? Optical drives aren't capable of running purchased physical media software anymore? No, it's because the tech industry is PUSHING
    optical drives out.

Oh, and lets not forget how many physical media games this gen was shipped and sold needing a "day one" patch. Whats up with that? Oh, right. If you want your physical media to run w/o a hiccup. You better also sign in to live and dl the patch... DRM at
    it's finest eh.

Personally, I like physical media. It can be bought New, played, sold or given to someone else countless times over. And you and I both know the "tech industry" does not like that. So how to keep the $ constantly flowing to devs, MS, Sony etc?

DRM... Have to DL it, have to DL a "day one" patch, and before you know it... Have to purchase a license to play used games. ~ Was being pushed before the X1 even launched.

Yet it's coming. How do I know?

"That's our game content you're using without our permission to make Google Dollars, which means. You owe us for using our content." (paraphrased) ~ Don't remember that one do ya?

OK, no manufacturer will ever say that their product isn't good at something (that's just obvious) all we can do is use common sense and work things out.

The best BLU RAY drive transfer rate is
    576 Mbits per second
and the average transfer rate of a decent HDD is
    1030 Mbits per second
. Now the transfer rate for the HDD is variable, some will be faster, some slower and it depends on where the data is stored, but that is the average.

Now Eurogamer did an article showing that load times were improved when
upgrading the standard HDD to an SSD
, also with a lot of games that use the ID Tech engine (games like Gears, Doom etc) they were famous for having texture popin, where the environment would load in, but without the textures. Those problems are now almost
gone because we all have to install games to HDD (though some games do still suffer, but far less)

@electro - If you spent just half as much time researching things as you do coming up with retarded conspiracy theories then you might actually be half-way intelligent someday.

Not everything is a conspiracy. I know it's a hard concept for you to accept, but different types of technology have different bottlenecks. That's why we come up with new stuff and continue to evolve.

Most modern laptops don't have disc drives because it's a dying form of media. USB, micro SD, etc are much better and the cost difference vs discs is nowhere near what it used to be. I know it's more fun for you to label it all as a conspiracy, but it's
called natural progression. Did you label the transition from VHS to DVD as some huge money grab conspiracy too? Never mind, that's a stupid question. I'm sure you did.

  9. Well, there we go with the name calling in a vain effort to waterboard (intimidte) someone into believing what you believe. "conspiracy theories... half-way intelligent."

Technology, even if slow. Can be improved upon, for. As I said when all others were saying. "X-86 can't do backwards compatible." To wit I replied. "Can't never could do anything."

So with that said, it is my firm standin that IF pursuied, the tech industry CAN do optical drives that could out perform even SSD HDD's.

But does the industry want optical tech that can out perform SSD's? No, they don't. What they want is you the consumer hogtied to single media purchases which cannot be resold. Which alienates an entire demigraphic. Again, DRM at it's finest.

PS: STOP with the intimidation tactics.

1, They do not work on me.

2, Such postings only teaches others to do the same in order to force/waterboard people to think, act and react inside a box.

So you're argument is "the tech industry" should say the **** with progression, and instead pursue making deprecated tech faster despite the fact it would increase costs several times over for no good reason. And all of this, when there are cheaper better
options already on the table which still have much higher potential for continued improvement.

Not to mention, disc speed and installing games has nothing to do with DRM in the first place. At this point you're just jabbering on about nothing.

Sorry, I just can't argue with "logic" like that.

Nobody is "Hogtieing" you to buy digital versions of games, why are you so obsessed with this DRM/Digital thing when it has nothing to do with the BLU RAY drive and installs.

If you want to buy a BLU RAY game, you can, all that happens is the game is installed to the hard drive (because it has much much better transfer rates) you still need the disc in the drive (that's your "DRM" right there, the need to keep the disc)

DRM is only used when you buy a game digitally, ie you download it. Before DRM there was nothing stopping people buying a game and then passing that game around to their mates (which means the studio loses sales)

With physical media though you require the disc to be in the drive to play it.

^ Depends on the platform. I've resold digital licenses before.

If you want to resell your Xbox games, buy the disc version instead. It's that simple. I hope MS and Sony will eventually allow selling or trading of digital games. Seems like they will basically have to if they want people to switch. Until then though,
I'm not losing any sleep over it.

As long as you don't install both discs on the same hard drive, you should be good. For example, install disc one on your main Xbox 360 hard drive. Install disc two on an external hard drive or flash drive.
