Anyone else extremely pissed off at Microsoft for not letting us play games without downloading them? I get it if you have to download some big game like gat 5 or whatever but the fact that I just put in world at war and would've had to wait 2+ hours for
it to download and update is completely and utterly ridiculous. Next gen. but can't play a game that I can play within 20 seconds on my 8 year old xbox 360. I also would understand if you just needed updates for the game, but no I would've had to waste more
space downloading a nearly decade old game on a system that I bought 2 weeks ago. And am I really limited to like 10 games? Cause 500 gb sounds like a lot, then you take 100 gb for the system and nearly every game your left with nothing! I have 4 games and
have used nearly 40% of my 366 total memory. Theirs an answer to everything obviously, but id say the xbox 360 is equal if not better than the xbone. Fix your **** microsoft.

    :)

0x80070490 seems to be preventing any game installation. What is it?

You're posting about Xbox One issues, this is the 360 forum. Try posting here:

Also, you should know by now that updates for all games on the Xbox One do that.

It's because the way technology is now, the disc reader can't keep up with the game reading it straight from the disc. It's the same with the PS4.

It's because the Blu-ray disc reader can't keep up with the game reading it straight from the disc. Smqutches is write, it's the same for PS4 too. Another big reason why there may be a large update while installing the disc, is because the Blu-ray disc manufactured
for Xbox One, can only store so much data. So game developers put what they can onto the disc, and if the rest of the game doesn't fit, you get it through downloading an update file which can sometimes be large. Yes!! Game sizes are significantly larger than
Xbox 360. This is to accommodate for higher graphics and textures and code, and game developers have 8GB RAM and Blu-ray to work with, so developers don't have to COMPRESS AS MUCH as Xbox 360, which only has 512MB RAM and DVD game discs; thus that is why games
on Xbox One are much more larger. Also, the operating system on Xbox One will take up roughly 100GB of your internal HDD's space, as Xbox One runs THREE OPERATING SYSTEMS (1) Windows kernel, currently a custom Windows 10 OS (2) Xbox OS (3) HYPERVISOR. And
this is coming from someone who has owned Xbox One since it's Launch, me.

  6. Well that isn't technically correct.

Blu-ray has a higher data transfer rate than DVD, it's how that data is read that causes the problem.

DVD drives and speed up and slow down. You can stream the game at 4x and then speed up to 12x when you need to load something from a different area of the disc.

Blu-ray however runs at a constant speed. It always runs at the rated speed of the drive.

For games this means that DVD could have the games sections as 1-2-3-4 and could speedily nip back and forward, meaning there is more space available on the disc. The same game on a blu-ray would load faster but would have to be setup something like 1-2-3-4-2-4-1-3-1-4-2.
Faster loading but negating the larger size benefit of having the game on a blu-ray disc in the first place.

and with BC games they are wrapped in an emulator, when you place a 360 game in the drive it is to confirm you own it, then it downloads the full game from the servers as it is setup in a way that cannot be done with the installed data from the actual disc.

and with the installation of xbox one media means it has faster loading times and less wear on the ODD. PC does it, PS4 does, get use to it.

    @ Lukedawg235

What do you mean by "Fix your **** Microsoft" I mean there is nothing for them to fix, and I'll explain why.

I imagine you like games like GTA5 (you mentioned so I'll use that game) you like having huge worlds to explore and good graphics? well to achieve that the developers require a huge amount of data to transferred between the disc and the memory. Modern disc
drives (Blue Ray, DVD etc) just cant transfer that amount of data fast enough, so the only solution is to copy the entire disc onto the internal hard drive (which can transfer data much much quicker)

So, you basically have two options, either drop the Xbox One and go back to playing games on the 360, or go to cartridge based consoles (3DS or the new Nintendo Switch)

  9. PS 3 has a blu ray player and the games are on blu ray. Yet no need to dl a game b4 playing it... Lot more data stored this gen as compared to last? Or is it the industry itself forcing you to digitally dl the game even if you have the game on disc?

After 3 + years of hearing the industry complain about everything from Blockbuster to Google dollars, I would argue thats it's the ladder.

Optial drives for the 360 are noisy bc games read from dvd game discs are demanding. Yet you never hear a ps3's Blu Ray Optical drive having to spin up to even 1\3 that speed. So I for one am just not buying the excuse that Blu Ray optical drives can't read
    the game data fast enough.

Industry standards can be any policy the industry seeks to impose. Thus even a game sold on disc (remember what xbox was championing before the X1 ever launched?) will not run w/o being tied to the net.

Believe it or not, what we are all saying IS TRUE!!!!

I'll use a game that is available on PS3 and PS4, and that is GTA5. On the PS3 it runs at a lower resolution, has lower resolution textures and even has lower FPS. So even though both systems are running the same game, the PS4 is having to transfer a lot
more data to do the same job.

Its up to you whether you believe it or not, but that's the way it is, get used to it or take up a new hobby, I've heard fishing is very popular.

    Fishing is popular? Really?

Can't prove that by me, for it seems I am the only one on the lake actually doing any fishing these days. Bass mostly!

As for more pixels, frame rates etc between a last gen game vs current gen. You're right. However, that still does not explain why current gen physical media games have to be DIGITALLY downloaded in order to actually play them. No, what does thoroughly explain
it, at least to me is. The industry itself WANTING it that way, and putting policies (DRM) in place to MAKE it that way.

But you believe whatever you wish!
