Installing games with "Administrator approval required for installation" - error 0x8007001F

I am a user of Xbox Game Pass for PC. Many of the Game Pass games download and install fine. The exception are the games with "Administrator approval required for installation" in the description. Games like "Halo Master Chief Collection" and "Wolfenstein
Young Blood", but there are many more. With these there is an error code 0x8007001F every time I try to install the game. The game download starts fine, but as soon it gets to the part where the installation should start - boom! - error 0x8007001F

The Windows 10 on my computer is up to date. All the device drivers are fine and up to date. The restarting of the computer, change of region settings, reinstalling Xbox Beta app, using Windows Store app instead - nothing helps.

I have read the users reporting this same error since july 2019. Judging from other similar reports I suspect the "problem" might be that my Windows 10 system resides on an external hard disk which somehow messes up the installation process for "Administrator
approval required for installation" games. Any ideas?

So this is what fixed it for me

Make sure that your microsoft account location is the same as your windows one
Mine for whatever reason gave same error until i changed my PC-s settings under Country and Region both to UK coz thats where my Microsoft was set as.

The reason i had different one is because i could not set my microsoft location to my real one on the account of it not being in the list of available ones.

I have the same issue, and I'm using a MacBook Pro with Windows installed on a USB SSD. It's a relief to finally find someone else in the same boat! I've seen so many proposed solutions to this error (and other similar ones), but they never work.

It's a bummer that there doesn't seem to be a solution (please let me know if you've figured anything out), but at least I'm not the only one in the universe. I started looking into it again, because I want to play Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, and I saw the dreaded "Administrator approval required" on its store page.

Im having the same issue "Administrator approval required for installation", I am running windows 10 from an external SSD as well, I need to and have no other option. I've added myself to the thread in hopes of receiving emails from this thread if/when a fix arrives.... Thank you

If you don't mind me asking, how old are you? Is it down to the age level of the game you are installing?

Not an angle I would have thought about myself, but, alas, I am (age level) 45 and thus it is not the problem here.

Of course. Does not help.

I have similar issues with apps and external storage.

It seems that for whatever reason, external drives aren't "trusted" as much as an internal system drive.

How is the external drive connected? Via USB, or is it an external SATA connector? You might coax the system into believing it's an internal drive, if you use an external SATA connector.

If you actually managed to install Windows on an USB drive (and it's not an official Windows To Go install), that might really be the problem.

The setup is an iMac 2019 with external Thunderbolt 3 SSD drive with Windows 10 Pro installed on it specifically for gaming needs. The problem with Xbox Games Pass for PC is the first (serious, mysterious) problem I have with this setup. Steam, Epic, GoG
- every other online gaming store works as it should and I can play pretty much any game I want, except for the ones available on the Games Pass for PC. I find it somewhat ironic.
