    Installing games on external


    Is there a way to install games on the external hard drive with this new update? Im using a seagate 1.5tb external. I had it lying around and i quick formatted on pc. I than hooked up to xbox. On 2nd attempt it formatted correctly and let me use. After 3
    hrs a majority of content transferred. But not installed games. When i tried to install a game it reverted to installing on internal hard drive. will unplugging internal fix this? Or will it give me worse side effects than i want?

    Hey there azendj.

    Are you installing the game to internal storage or do you have an external storage device? If you're using external storage, try installing it directly on your Xbox One to see if there's any change.

    installing games on external hard drive

    since it is an external drive rather then a xbox 360 s hd

    you need to format it which means you can only use 16gigs of it

    (offical drives can use 250gigs)

    Nvm, i answered my own question. It seems if i waited more than 2 seconds last time i started the install I would've seen that give me a choice to install on my external. I just saw started installing and just cancel before they give me the option to select
    the storage space.

    just to be sure, are the games installed on the internal storage device or an external storage device?

    If they are installed on an external storage device, please try and see what happens if the game is installed on the internal storage device and the external storage device is disconnected.

    Thanks for the update on the issue. Try installing the game specifically on the internal drive instead of the external drive. Once installed and launch, then move it to the external HD. Personally have had this issue with games on an external drive. Once
    installed on internal they worked great.

    None of the above solve the issue. Games currently Installed on the external drive work. Unless they need an update. They can not be updated. New games can not be installed to external drives in the xpack enclosure. Apps seem install with no issue. Games
    can not be migrated to or from the external drive as well. Apps migrate with no issue. The issue seems to be related to the xpack external enclosure. It seems to have stopped working after the Feb update. Prior to this games installed updated and transfered
    with no issues using the xpack enclosure.

    Hi,

    The only sure fire way would be to buy an external hard drive, install the game to this device and only plug it in when you want to play it. You could also use the external drive to install other games you don't want the children to have access to.

    This is the only way since it's not possible to hide games. But games installed to an external hard drive won't show if said external drive is not plugged in.
