Installing game from disc Xbox One X

I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to this type of technology, hence this post!

I've just bought an Xbox One X, and I'm struggling with how long it takes to download/install games. I've tried a few games, both downloading and inserting a disc. And it takes HOURS. Forgive my ignorance but with our cronky old Xbox 360 (and other older
consoles) you just put a disc in and it plays. With this one I put the disc in and hours later I still have nothing. It's an Xbox One X Enhanced game, I don't know if that makes any difference. The one I've tried to download straight to the Xbox isn't.

Is this what is going to happen every single time I get a new game? I would have expected something a lot faster for the "most powerful console in the world", or does this happen with ALL new games consoles??

    Thank you. Lisa

    :)

All X and Xbox One games install fully to the HD, so the disc part is probably just whatever they use for the disc check. Not sure how big the latest patches have been, but it's probably just downloading the latest version.

How to install a game to your Xbox 360 hard drive

You can play a game directly from the game disc without installing it to your hard drive. But you can also install it to improve load times and minimize game disc access.

    Installation Process:

    • First, you need to insert the game disc into your disc drive. The game will start as the default option is to automatically start the game. If the game starts, you’ll have to exit the game, and get back to the Xbox Dashboard.
    • You need to go to Home and highlight the game you want to install with your controller.
    • Press X on your controller and select Install to Hard Drive.
You’ll see a progress indicator while your game is being installed to your hard drive. The installation might take up to 12 minutes.

    Notes:

    • Your hard drive must have sufficient free disc space as installing a game requires between 4 and 8 gigabytes of free disc space.
    • You also need to have the game disc to start the game once you have installed it on your hard drive. But the benefits are that installing games on your hard drive minimizes game disc access and reduces load times.
    • You are not allowed to install Original Xbox games on your Xbox 360 hard drive.

Installing game from disc Xbox One X

If you install it offline it will usually install a little quicker, but yes, you will run into the same thing with all the games and newer consoles.

all games need to install fully from either disc or as a download, then while installing it will check for updates and download them accordingly, these can be huge, and as it is the xbox one X it will have to download all the 4K textures etc etc, which is
even bigger. No games run from disc anymore on xbox or it's competitors console. If you have slow internet access then you will need to wait long periods of time while downloading updates etc etc.

I guess I should have looked into this before buying it haha! Although once they're installed it will be fine, so I will just have to plan ahead and remember to get them installed plenty of time ahead for the first go. Modern technology!

Optical disks just can't hole enough data, hence the downloads. You will also run into update patches for games, if you set your console to instant on and keep all games and apps up to date, they should update before you come to game.

Psychonauts broken on Xbox One X

This install was on a fresh from the box new Xbox One X. Also, you cannot install BC games in offline mode, the game must be downloaded from the store to complete installation. The game was uninstalled and reinstalled several times and the same disc is
currently working on another original Xbox One console. If you read the links provided, there are several other users that were working successfully on the Xbox One X until an update that hit around the middle of August. After this update, it seems that the
game is not working for anyone on an Xbox One X console.

    Destiny: Beagle error code

I cannot speak for Xbox One users or users with a digital download on Xbox 360, I have a retail disc copy. The fix is simple. Delete the Destiny content on your storage device as Bungie suggests but, install the disc instead of running the game and downloading
the 5GB+ of content from the network.

Most 360 games on disc allow you to install the game to the hard drive by pressing X and selecting Install which you should do with Destiny. If you do not do this, the game will install the disc content for you but from the Internet and not from disc. This
5GB+ of unneeded download is what is failing the verification. The disc install takes up 7GB.

Will NBA 2k24 for Xbox series X game disc work on my Xbox one? Are series X games compatible with One consoles or only vice versa?

NO! Unlike some games that have an Xbox One version that will upgrade to the the S|X version if you put it in a series X, NBA2K for S|X is a complete different version than the Xbox One version and it will not work if you put the disc inside of an Xbox One. Xbox One cannon run a Series X game and putting a Series X disc inside an X1 will not install the X1 version.

GTA 5 installation issues on Series X

I recently got a Series X and sold off my Xbox One X. I will be honest, I love my new Xbox, but trying to install GTA 5 is a living nightmare. I have been having issues ever since I first started installing it a few hours ago. First off, network installation continusouly stopped the installation at hand, but I NEVER experienced this on my Xbox One X. Once network installation FINALLY ended, the installation sped up, and then, out of nowhere, at about 30 GB into disc installation, the time jumped from minutes to over two hours and more. I've tried EVERYTHING and nothing works. I've reinserted the disc, hard reset the damn console like 3 times, I've installed the Blu-Ray app, cleaned the entire disc, and I've even put my ENTIRE console offline. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WORKS. NO, I am NOT going to factory refresh my WHOLE CONSOLE. This is a brand-new Xbox Series X, fresh out of the box. These issues should NOT be happening, ESPECIALLY since my Xbox One X installed this game with NO issues whatsoever.
Always install disc games OFFLINE, 30-60gb disc games are mean less when installing offline. Then Connect to the internet! Open game, prompt Update and install, this is GTA were talking about it has literally 118GB worth of updating from the base Disc game Wait 1-2 days depending on your download up load speeds and enjoy! Hope you had luck love my day one Series X play GTA 5 on it every day

X BOX X series download game compatibility

And if so how this will work/ what you would need to achieve this.
Xbox Series X will support all Xbox One games (with the exception of Kinect titles). This BC will be supported by both physical discs and digital downloads.

For discs you'll just insert your original Xbox One disc and the game will install and play as it does on an Xbox One. Digital games will be available to download again from your library - you just need the account you purchased them.

If you have an external hard drive for your current Xbox One, you just need to connect via USB to the Series X. Any games you have already installed (digital or disc) will be ready to play.

It will really be that easy.
