  1. Installing disc games to hard drive

Will there eventually be an update where we will no longer have to install full disc games to the hard drive.

I own a 500gb hard drive and I have a 500gb external hard drive and I can only own up to 10 games at a time, while I constantly have to delete games to make room for new ones.

The idea of continually purchasing more storage does not sound appealing.

    Any feedback would be appreciated,

    Thanks.

    :)

How to install a game to your Xbox 360 hard drive

You can play a game directly from the game disc without installing it to your hard drive. But you can also install it to improve load times and minimize game disc access.

    Installation Process:

    • First, you need to insert the game disc into your disc drive. The game will start as the default option is to automatically start the game. If the game starts, you’ll have to exit the game, and get back to the Xbox Dashboard.
    • You need to go to Home and highlight the game you want to install with your controller.
    • Press X on your controller and select Install to Hard Drive.
You’ll see a progress indicator while your game is being installed to your hard drive. The installation might take up to 12 minutes.

    Notes:

    • Your hard drive must have sufficient free disc space as installing a game requires between 4 and 8 gigabytes of free disc space.
    • You also need to have the game disc to start the game once you have installed it on your hard drive. But the benefits are that installing games on your hard drive minimizes game disc access and reduces load times.
    • You are not allowed to install Original Xbox games on your Xbox 360 hard drive.

Downloading Games To The Hard Drive

You should always install the disc to the hard drive

    1) Its makes the system run faster
    2) You don't burn up your DVD drive
    3) If you somehow ruin your disk,it works most of the time

If you don't know how to do it, these are the steps - From Xbox.com

    1) Insert the game disc into the disc drive.

    Note:
After you insert the disc, the default option is to automatically start the game. If the game starts, exit the game, and return to the Xbox Dashboard.

    2) Go to Home.
    3) Highlight the game you want to install with your controller.
    4) Press X on your controller.
    5) Select Install to Hard Drive.

A progress indicator appears while your game is installed to your hard drive. Installing a game to your hard drive can take up to 12 minutes.

    GoW Judgement Disc Unreadeable

Try installing the game to your hard drive. With the disc in the tray on the home page of the dash, press X for Game Details then choose Install. You'll still need the disc in the tray but the game will be read from the hard drive instead of the disc drive.

    Black Ops 2 Freezing Issue

    Hi Chubby,

Is the disc installed on the Hard Drive? If so, delete the disc from the Hard Drive. See if the problem still occurs when you play the game. If not, Re-install the game to your Hard Drive and it should be fixed.

One way in which BC Xbox 360 games are not backwards compatible

Basically the Xbox 360 would read games from the disc and you wouldn't need to install the games to the 360 hard drive if you had the disc.

On Xbox One, you need to install all games to the hard drive (or an external hard drive) regardless of if you have the disc or not, or if it's a backwards compatible game.
