Installing Disc Based Game Updates With Console Turned OFF

I had a console off a friend and it would always try to update when you turn it on then fail and you are stuck there. I was told to put the update on a disc and put it in the console turn it off and rebot and install update. Got to be on disc as update on
usb did not work ,same as connecting to online did not fix it....

Turn the console off completely, disconnect the network, then turn it back on and install the game from the disc. This will speed that up. When that's done, turn it off again, reconnect your network and install the update/patch.

This should smooth everything out for you, just make sure that you fully turn off the console when you disconnect and reconnect the network cable to get the true results.

1. Cancel the installation and remove the disc.

2. Perform a powercycle on your console.

​​​A. Turn off your console by holding the Xbox button on the front of the console for approximately 10 seconds. The console will turn off. ​​​

B. Turn your console back on by pressing the Xbox button on the console or the Xbox button on your controller. ​​​

3. Launch Xbox app on your phone and search for the game.

4. Click the game and choose "Download to Console"

5. Wait for the game to install completely before inserting the disc to play it.

what i did was to un-install the game turn off xbox, re insert disc, re-install but this time when it tells you there is an update available for the game hit No and dont install the update until after the disc is fully installed.

If some disc based games do not install on your console please try disconnecting the console from the internet and then try installing again. It could be that updates may be interfering with the install.
