    Install taking a long time

    This is not a repost. The stickied post refers to games installed via disc. I got the Assassin's creed Xbone this Christmas. I put in the download codes 12 hours ago and neither Black Flag or Unity is finished installing. Is that normal? Black Flag is
    only at 10%. What the heck MS?

    :)

    Installs Taking a Long Time? -- CHECK HERE!!

    Hey there everyone!

    If you're installing a game to your Xbox One console from a disc and it seems to be frozen (meaning it's sitting at a lower percentage for an extended period of time), have no fear! We're here to help!

    Give the following steps a shot:

    • Cancel your download
    • Disconnect your Xbox One console from your network.
    • Hold down the power button (on the console) for 5-10 seconds until the console powers off.
    • Power the console on again.
    • Retry the game install again without connecting to your network.
    • Once the game has completed installing, you can reconnect to your network and download any needed updates.

    Check out the Xbox One Downloadable Content home page for more information!

    If the above steps worked for you, great! We're stoked to hear it!

    If not, please let us know and we'll be happy to assist from there. ^_^

    Taking a long time

    Actually it mostly depends from the speed of your net connection. Although sometimes impending updates might cause delay and you will have to clear your console cache like this:

    Press and hold the power button on the front of the console until it powers down completely.

    Unplug the power cable from the back of the console so that the power brick in not connected to the console.

    Press the power button on the console three or four times. This will ensure that any remaining power in the battery is drained, clearing the cache on the console.

    Plug the power cable back into the console.

    Wait for the light on the power brick to change from white to orange.

    Turn on the console using the power button.

    Install taking a long time

    Biggest Christmas let down ever. I regret buying this console for the kids. 2 days now and not one game update downloaded. Every time I try to download an update, nothing. Sitting right now at 98% on FIFA 15. 2 hours!!!! My internet connection is fine.
    Checked my bandwith over 1 gig overnight trying to get COD to update. Don't tell me to Powercycle cause I have done that more times than I can remember. Next time it gets unplugged its going back to the store and I'm getting my money back!!!!! I have the
    Assassins creed one too. I don't want to try to download it!!!

    Your download times will depend entirely on your home network. If you have low download speeds, or many devices all connected at once, this will significantly worsen your download times.

    The games are also considerably bigger than their 360 counterparts (40GB on Xbox One versus the typical 5-6GB on Xbox 360), which will also make it seem like it's much slower than you're used to.

    You can check your download speed by going to Settings/Network/Bandwidth Usage/Current Usage. This tells you your download speed and by knowing the size of the game you can calculate the expected time to download.

    I don't believe it's the download time I'm watching. It's the install percent. Isn't the download different?

    They're downloaded games, so the entire installation process is a download.

    I too got the Xbox One bundle with AC Unity and Black Flag for Christmas. I typed in the download codes Christmas Eve at midnight and it is Dec 27th and it still hasn't finished installing. Is 65 hours and counting normal download time, or is something
    wrong?

    I've recently uprgraded from 360 to a one console. I was concerned about the length of time it takes to install games from disc (let alone internet downloads). It take several hours (even over night, or two). I've attempted to disconnect from the internet
    (in settings) and hard reset the console (by pressing the power-on button on the front of the console for 10 seconds) but it proceeds to take ridiculously long time and has little effect to the speed. Also some games just stop installing if disconnect from
    online.

    It seems waiting hours before game play is the norm now, which is ridiculous when you just want to jump straight in. If you're connected to the internet the xbox will force download any updates first, so this explains why it hangs at the beginning of installation
    (subject to your internet speed). I've also switched the xbox power mode from "energy saver" to "quick start up", which forces updates and installations when the xbox is not in use, but still am waiting up to 48hrs before a game installs.

    Xbox have said they'll be releasing advanced downloads for future games, so you can have them on your system ready for the official release date.

    What's the bet Microsoft will be releasing a "slimmer" and more advanced console in the new year to rival the current slower and painful installations!?

    They finished. I went in and checked the bandwidth current usage like Maxen suggested. It's my internet speed. I was/am getting 1mb/s. I did some mental math and figured that a game near 40 gig is gonna take around 12 hours at that rate. That stinks,
    but it's my connection speed, not my Xbone. Now that I know, I'm content. Not thrilled, but content.

    "Too long" is hard to define for something that depends on your Internet speed. I would say "too long" is when the download is not maxing out your home network's speed, but that could be because of other devices on the network, eg one person is downloading
    large files, another is streaming film/TV and someone else is making a video call - all that affects the Xbox's download badly.

    ~~~~
    @Chrisy: For downloads, Microsoft/Xbox has already begun with pre-ordering and pre-loading for many games. A week or so before release (for Halo:MCC it was more than a month before), the game becomes available to purchase AND download, so that the game is
    ready to be unlocked at midnight on release day.
    One thing some people have wanted is to have a pre-download for disc-based games (file is installed, requires disc to play) to also cut down on waiting times. This is not something that is currently available, but if that's something you want, head over
    to Xbox Ideas, powered by UserVoice, which is the feedback site for Xbox read by the development and engineer teams. Search for that idea and vote for it - if no one has suggested it yet, write the idea yourself
    and publish.
