insert disc when the game is digital

i bought Forza horizon 3 and i cant play it because its asking me to insert the disc but my game is digital...

Disc insertion not recognized

Since starting with preview program I have struggled when swapping games. When I eject game the disc tray icon says insert disc. I will insert disc and it doesn't change. If I go to my pins and try to load the game it says I need to insert disc or buy
digital edition. I have to eject and insert multiple times until Xbox One actually reads the disc and I can game. Never get any disc read errors and game play fine.

Other troubleshooting I have attempted is powering down console completely, i.e. unplugging power and booting cold. Sometimes it works, but most time it is eject insert until system reads disc.

When you play a game installed from a physical disc you need to have the disc inserted to start the game. So for digital, you can insert the disc so would need a digital license. At the moment it is not possible to transfer physical to digital licenses.

If you want to be able to run the game without the disc be inserted (i.e. a digital game) then yes, you will to re-pirchase the game from the digital store.

Although the games gets downloaded when you insert the disc, the license is held with the disc. This is why the console needs to check to see if you have the disc to check you have a license. But the game is not actualy run from the disc.

No, that's not how it works.

GTA IV is a backwards compatible game. When you insert the disc the console will prompt you for an update (the update is actually the digital download).

To play a disc based Xbox 360 game on your Xbox One you'll still need to insert the disc to launch the game and prove ownership.

When installing a disc, it registers its license with your console, hence you need to insert it whenever you use it. There is no way to circumvent this, unless you buy the digital version of the game.

If you have already installed the game from disc, and had decided to purchase it digitally, the game will run without the disc, in its digital format.
