Input misinterpretation on console

My friend has a bizarre issue with his Xbox One and inputs. We've tested my controller (which works fine on my console) on his and it presents the same problem so it's not an issue with his Xbox One controller.

In games, the console thinks he is constantly holding down the A button and the Home/Xbox button acts like directional down when pressed, refusing to allow him to return to his Home screen. On the Home screen when it boots, using A sometimes flashes the border
of the tile he's selecting but doesn't activate/select when pressed, yet other times will allow him to select. It does this with both his and my controllers. He has cleared the cache and his console has the latest update.

More than a Rumor.....

A misinterpretation? Perhaps the 'guy' was talking about Silver memberships.

 

He figured it out and the solution makes no sense.

However, I'll put it here just in case someone ever has it happen to them so that maybe it'll bring this thread up when they search for the issue. There was a keyboard plugged into the back of the system and the issue resolved itself once it was unplugged.
There's no logical reason I can muster for why it did that, but that's what happened.
