Input lag detected occasionally when playing games, getting serious input lag when 1 meter...

Input lag is the difference in time between when the signal is accepted by the display and when it is shown on the screen. Both HDTVs and monitors have some, but monitors tend it have less because of default settings on TVs increasing input lag. You can
set up a HDTV to have an unnoticeable amount of input lag.

For a television I thing 14ms input lag is fantastic so unless you are very sensitive to input lag I don't think you will notice much if any difference between 6ms and 14ms. Also don't forget most gamers will probably be playing on televisions with worse
input lag than 14ms so I don't think you will be at any disadvantage when gaming.

I have never seen a HTIB or an AVR induce video lag, that always happens at the screen due to image processing. The audio system will output the audio correctly but it could be ahead of the TV if it has a high amount of input lag. When you play games on
the TV with it connected directly, do you feel input lag? Also, if you post the model number, we can help find how high/low the input lag is on that specific model.

CODukes, remember that input lag is different than response time. The best monitors I have seen are about 9ms of input lag with a 1 seconds response. truly beast. I just (literally today) purchased a 27" monitor for my wife because I found my wife's TV has
~100ms of input lag (no game mode). 10ms input lag 6ms of response time. What monitor did you get? Whats funny is my TV a Sharp 52" from 2007 has a 30ms input lag. Which explains why I tend to do better than my wife...

Most likely input lag. Newer HDTVs have a "game mode" setting. It usually gets rid of the input lag, see if yours has it.
