Initial update

my poor 8 year old is going crazy. Keep getting trouble with update msg but no code for 2 days now grrrrrrr! Trying to get support on phone or online but cant enter my name into fields. Pls help

Initial update failing

I know its been a while since this thread was active but I thought I would post my experience with this issue in case anyone else has it in the future. I just bought a new Xbox one system today and when I hooked it up for the first time it wanted to do a
system update. It connected to the internet just fine and started downloading the update but after it got to 24% it froze. I tried this many times using a wired internet connection and a wireless connection and each time it did the same thing. I started googling
the issue looking for answers and came across this thread and some others. Anyway, nothing helped fix the issue. Re-booting my router and the Xbox did nothing. I didn't have any issues using my old Xbox 360 or any of my computers or cell phones on my home
network so I knew my network connectivity was not an issue. I logged into my router to look at the settings to see if there might be anything in there that might be causing me this issue. Oh, the router that I have is the ASUS RT-AC68U model. What I noticed
was that I had some filters turned on for the router firewall settings such as URL filter and keyword filter which I use to block porn sites and anything else I don't want my kids to be able to access. I don't believe those filters were causing the issue I
was having with downloading the system update but I did disable them anyway just to be sure they weren't. The setting I think may have been causing the issue was the
IPv6 firewall setting that was enabled. The thing that caught my eye with this setting was the comments that were listed under that setting. This is what they said:

"All outbound traffic coming from IPv6 hosts on your LAN is allowed, as well as related inbound traffic.
Any other inbound traffic must be specifically allowed here."

The highlighted part at the end is what really got my attention. I decided to disable the IPv6 firewall altogether.

After disabling the URL filter, keyword filter and the IPv6 firewall I rebooted the router and the Xbox. This time when the Xbox started doing the initial system update it got up to the 24% level and kept going to my surprise! Woohoo! It completed the entire
download and installed the update with no issues after that. I really believe that the IPv6 firewall setting is what was causing my issue with the system update download. After wards I re-enabled the URL and keyword filters on the router but I kept the IPv6
firewall turned off and I haven't had any issues since.

I hope this helps someone else who may be experiencing this issue in the future.
