Infinite updates

It seems that at least every other day, in the early hours of the morning, my xbox one stops whatever its doing and says it needs a system update. I say yes, it updates and it lasts for a day or so but then it happens again and again. Yes, I did sign up
for the preview program, but this began before i signed up. I really don't want to restore to factory defaults but i will if i must. Any help would be greatly appreciated. BTW I think my cd-rom drive is crapping out because it takes four or five times of inserting
for it to read the disk. After it reads it, it works fine.

Try power cycling your console, power down your Xbox and wait till it completely shuts down, unplug your console from the wall for 30sec, plug it back in and then press and hold your finger on the power button for 8-10secs, release your finger and wait a
second then power your console back on. This should hopefully resolve your issues without having to do a full factory reset...

 

Your console should not be updating daily even if you are in the preview update.

First do what oldskool89 said.

If that doesnt fix it I would do a factory reset. As long as you have xbox live you wont lose any saves because they are stored in the cloud

If factory reset doesnt fix it then you probably have a faulty console
