incredibly slow disk installs

Well if it's still moving I would leave it. Slow and steady wins the race!

 

just hit 95%!!!! i dont want to celebrate just yet though. could still all go pear shaped

 

more progress. ive actually been able to launch the game now, and after adjusting the brightness and a few other setup steps, im now at a loading screeen which says "installing... 79%" in the corner. not sure what to make of that. hopefully anyone whos played
horizon 2 might know what im on about

I read somewhere that Phill stated the long disc install times were not planned but were needed when they reversed the disc-less play DRM feature

I find the games install quite quickly when offline. Now I always remove the Ethernet cable before installing from disc and then go online for the updates. It easily halves the time needed to install and update.

finally hit the 100% mark after about an hour of playing. so relieved. the stranger thing is though, after messing about with horizon for a bit, i tried installing GTAV expecting the struggle to be the same... but it did it in about 45minutes! including
the 1.2mb(ish) update that came with it.... so yeah, its all good now at my end!

Ryse took me a couple hours yesterday to to install and add a 9.5gb update but i think a lot of that had to do with the bs going on with live being tampered with as it was connecting/disconnecting often.

 

As mentioned above the best way to install a game is this:

- Disconnect from the internet.

- Insert disc and load game.

- Reconnect internet.

- Select game and then get the updates. Let them all install then play.

 

^That's what I always do. Disk installs go wayyyyyyy faster when offline. Then jump online for any updates and you're good to go.

 

As a few others have posted. Make sure to say "later" for installing any game updates. Wait until your disc is installed completely. It still takes around an hour to install from the disc, but if it tries doing both at the same time it completely clogs
it up. 7mb speed should not take that long for the update. So as others say, disconnect from the internet, after pausing your disc install, then restart your One and then resume install. Once that is complete, then do the game update.

 

Its not your console, it's your slow internet, it's fine for gaming but for downloading huge files it's not great. Plus a huge amount of other people who got Xbox Ones for Christmas are doing the same thing and slowing the download even further.

I think they should do the installs the same way as PS4 - pop in your new game, and you are playing 30 seconds later. It's a much better way IMO.

 

Mine is stuck at 93% also. It will NOT proceed any further

 

I tried going off-line, however my XBOX one refuses to install Forza Horizion 2 unless the console is connected to the internet.
