Incredibly Hard Difficulties Changing Xbox Game Bar Capture Save Location

    Hi,

A quick backstory, my SSD was running out of space so I decided I wanted to move the default save location of my Xbox Game Bar captures to my HDD.

So, I went to properties of the Captures folder in the Videos folder and changed the location to D Drive.

Then I realized I had messed up very badly as I didn't make a captures folder in my D Drive and just selected D Drive itself. This has now caused me a number of issues:

    1. I cannot move the location again as it is a "parent folder"

    2. Now my recordings are saved in the Videos folder on my SSD

    3. Now, I have to go through much, much more work to move each capture moving foward.

And the windows settings window is not helping me at all as there is no option to change it. I am in a very annoyed position right now, I want to do a system restore but I cannot as I didn't have a backup.

I hope this can be fixed, thank you.

    :)

After moving my videos folder to my (D:) drive, the Xbox Game Bar is lagging heavily

Hello Username34! I'm Claus, an Independent Microsoft Community Consultant for Xbox! Glad to be able to help you!

If you are capturing games constantly on the Xbox Game Bar, and then you changed the folder to where the Game Bar records to, and that disk on which your captures are being saved to is a slow drive (mechanical hard drive), or your game is also installed on that disk, then there's a chance that the game and the captures being read and saved, respectively, might be overloading your drive and then making everything slow.

Possibly changing it back to the C: drive will improve performance.

Microsoft Xbox game bar Captures folder is messed up

    Hi DrSeuss7519,

Have you completed all troubleshooting recommendations on the Xbox Game Bar found on Support.Xbox.com?

Do not know what version of windows you have, but on Windows 11 you can navigate to Settings > Gaming > Captures > Captures location. From here you can change the game capture save location.

    Best regards,

    XBF Drew

Game DVR, lo hizo de nuevo :( [Mod Translation - Game DVR, did it again]

    Hey Z3N3K

Thank you for taking the time to post this on the Xbox Forums. We understand that you are currently experiencing difficulties with recording content.

If you haven't already, I recommend that you review the
Troubleshooting Xbox Game Bar on Windows 10
article and see if some of these techniques work for you.

Additionally, it would be worth trying to save your captures to a different location and see if that helps alleviate the message that states there is nothing to record.

To see where your captures are saved, open Game bar and select the My captures folder, or press the
Start button, choose Settings > Gaming >
Captures. Press the Open folder button to see your captures in File Explorer.

By default, game clips and screenshots are saved in your
Videos folder (named Captures). The Captures folder can be moved to different places on your PC.

There should also be a help link when you select Captures that says "How to save to a different folder".

I hope this is of some use to you.

I can't stream on mixer and screenshot window is empty

    Hi Ma Ho,

Thank you for posting on the Xbox forums.

As you have stated, broadcasting directly to Mixer has been removed from the Xbox Game Bar in a recent update for the Game Bar. There is no indication the feature will come back to the Game Bar, so as of now the feature is gone for good to make room for
    other more requested features.

As far as why your captures are not showing in that window, have you restarted your PC and checked the Microsoft Store app if there are any recent updates for Xbox Game Bar? Have you tried changing the location of where the captures are saved?

Be sure to let us know!
