    Increasingly Annoyed

Throughout the XBox 360's life (more so after the avatar introduction) it grew increasingly slow, trying to access different stuff by pressing the guide button and seeing the spinning circle hang for what seemed like ages it got to be a joke. With the announcement
of the XBox One and it's 'ability to multitask' I was expecting a vast improvement, in fact it seems worse. Never have i had to reset my 360 'DURING IT's 8 YEAR CYCLE' as much as I have with my Xbox One during its 5 month introduction. Trying to access messages,
friends list, apps etc and having the console lock up is beyond a joke. I've now had to turn off one of the XBox One's 'FUNCTIONS' (that of the sleep mode) because this seems to clutter up the cashe quicker but even turning it off does not solve the constant
freeze up on the machine. Is this being addressed?

It needs to be because it's destroying the once console leading XBox Live brand. Many was the time that XBox owners would scoff at PSO's joke of online functionality but whilst Sony has made massive strides listening to people and improving the brand Microsoft
have just become complacent and big headed. I bought a PS4 two weeks ago and the speed at which you can access different stuff is fantastic, stuff works when you ask it to, there is little to no hanging around watching the spinning circle of the super multi
tasking XBox One. What is going wrong Microsoft? I'm an 11 year veteran subscriber to XBox Live but it's becoming harder to justify me hanging on much longer. If I could convince the rest of my friends to swap over to Sony's platform right now I'd pack up
the XBox and sell up. My persuasion to those friends is working and some have also bought the PS with others, like me, becoming sick and tired of the terribly slow functionality. I'm also yet to see an XBox One killer app, where are the exclusives? Titanfall
was good, but not great, but where are the other exclusives? this is another area that Sony is great at and something the faded from the XBox brand the further it ran into its life.

I want to keep my XBox, I've been a loyal customer for many years now but you need to speed up the UI functionality and Nurture exclusives and Indies.

    :)

fletch I totally agree mate posted very similar post myself today and had it removed seems like your not even aloud to have an honest opinion about the console . I have never owned ps but am so fed up with the whole x1 experience and after reading what you
said am seriously thinking of trading it in for ps4

Well switching to the ever stagnant PS4 is an option, but at the end of the day the functionality and versatility are never going to compare to the X1. It doesn't take as long to switch between things (supposedly) because there is less functionality to
    it. Plain and simple.

And exclusives? The X1 has released Titanfall, Dead Rising 3, Forza 5, Ryse, the new Zoo Tycoon, and Killer Instinct so far that are X1 exclusives. PS4 has what, Infamous Second Son, Killzone, and Knack? Well if that floats your boat I guess.

And that's all the superficial crud. At the end of the day you have to realize it's a new system, built on a new hardware platform. This system has more in common with your PC than your 360, and it's going to take times to work the bugs out. If you really
were a first adopter with the 360 then you know that the first couple years of the systems life was anything but smooth. Constantly crashing, red rings, system updates that never installed and had to be rolled back and redone. It was a nightmare. If you
want to be a first adopter, then you need to be able to handle the curve balls. If not, then by all means, go to PS4 and have fun. And don't mind that pesky blue light, the constant PSN server crashes, the lack of actual content, and inferior customer service.

The fact is they've never learned, yes the xbox had some exclusive games on release but what's next? Don't be a fanboy about stuff, its the weakest form of argument. Sony are announcing nee IP's all the time, where's the new Xbox IP's? Games are evolving
but xbox seems to be happy to sit on games that were available on an 8 year old console, some older. I want Microsoft to announce some new stuff, where's the MMO's like Sony seem to produce all the time, check out H1Z1. Microsoft shouted how fast and seamless
the multitasking and switching between stuff was going to be but it's not, improve it. There's nothing in the pipeline at Microsoft that I know of that's making people sit up and take notice. Its a sad time.

thats an interesting post, flech, and sums up how I'm feeling too.

I understand the argument that its a fledgling console, and new things will come, but I feel it (and the PS4 actually) were released to the market way too soon. It is a bit unforgivable for promised features to have been removed at launch (3d blu ray playback
for one), and some 5 months later still not appeared.

I don't think its unreasonable to have expected ALL the functionality from the 360 to have been ported over as a starting point... why release something that is significantly less capable that your last generation?

With regards to the PS4, I do worry that 'the grass isnt always greener' ...... but recently have ben seriously considering taking the plunge.

Im in the UK, and the HDMI passthrough isnt useful here yet as none of our SKY or Tivo boxes are yet compatible, and when I tired to connect another set top box (a NowTV box), it did not pass through dolby 5.1 sound (the 'beta' option did not work in its
    case). Useless.

The main feature I want now is 3d Blu Ray playback. My old PS3 is still cluttering up my TV unit and will remain there until someone gets their act together.

I am so tempted to cut my losses and start again with a PS4.... haven't done yet.... but if they were to release 3D blu ray then i wouldn't hesitate. And this is from someone who used to consider themselves an Xbox man rather than PS4.

There is no "Fanboy"ism here. I like Sony almost as much as MS. What I'm arguing are quantifiable facts. The X1 simply has more to offer. Period. You may not be happy with the functionality of it, and I get that. It's a new system and things are going
to slow on the uptake. They made a system unlike anything thats been done before and they're in all new waters with all new hazards. Things are going to happen.

And this argument over exclusives is so trite. Exclusives are the bane of any real gamers existence, and from a marketing standpoint, it's just plain foolish. Why alienate half your market by limiting who can and can't play your game? Why would you want
to hold up exclusivity as a positive thing when in fact it's just the opposite? And exclusive MMO's? Have you honestly heard of anything more ridiculous on a console? MMO's are an untested on consoles and honestly I don't see them being all that successful
away from being a PC exclusive, but I am excited to try ESO and Destiny. Granted they aren't exclusives, but they look fun none the less.

Really what it comes down to is, it doesn't matter. If you choose to own an X1 then you're signing up for "List of issues A". You decide to own a PS4 then you're signing up for "List of issues B". They both have them. I think that the X1 narrowly squeaks
out here because most of it's issues are software based and can be cleared up with simple troubleshooting. The majority of the PS4's issues are all catastrophic hardware failures that require a replacement. That's just simple numbers and my humble opinion.

Nigewes, I was thinking the same thing for a while there. Why take 8 years of hard work and throw it all out the window for something untested and unproven? It took that long for them to work out the kinks on the 360 and most anyone would believe the X1
to do the smart thing and be a natural evolution of an established success. It seems to me they gambled and threw the dice, and lost (hence the reason that the Xbox division is on it's third division head). But if you haven't noticed, almost every system
update has included a piece of the old system we've come to know and love. And every update has honestly been a breath of fresh air. They'll get it on track, it's just not going to happen overnight.

As for the 3D functionality of it I can honestly say that it's going to come down to the people demanding it, and there simply isn't the demand. 3D TV's are, imo and sorry if this sounds harsh, a fad. And no one likes a fad. Half the people out there
can't even watch 3D because it gives them headaches or full blown motion sickness. I say that as one of the people in the first column. I avoid 3D at all costs. Sure having it as an option would be OK I guess, but why spend the time and resources to create
a functionality of something if only a few percent of your consumer base is asking for it?

Agreed bigbenx88, neither side is flawless here. Yes over the last few months functionality has been trickling in but nothing 'next gen' - most should have been there from day 1 - my best example here is the battery level indicator. I don't understand
how the console could launch without a battery level indicator! all of us having to play until it stopped working and then we get the hint it needs a recharge!

I must disagree with your take 3D. Its an 'argument' that is often levelled. Just because you don't want it, use it, or like it does not make it a fad or something not worth investing in.

Keeping as impartial as I can be... the facts are:

    1. In the UK at least, most if not all 'higher end' TVs have 3D capability whether you want it or not. This continues to be the case and it is by no means a 'dropped feature'.

    2. Referring to 1. - A lot of us have 3D capable TVs.

    3. Most if not all movies are still at the cinema in 3D. This has not gone away or faded at all. Look at all the big blockbusters today - Captain america, Spider-Man - all released in 3D.

    4. Referring to 3. - ALL of those films get a 3D blu ray release too. All of them.

    5. Many of us have bought the 3D blu rays and continue to want to do so as they are still being released. This is no 'mini disk' etc etc etc fad from the past. This is still highly relevant.

    6. A great many stand alone blu ray players available on the market today are 3D capable.

So, given the above facts, I don't think its too much to hope that a new, next gen blu ray player at least supports 3D. If not for the many many of us out there who own a collection of 3D blu ray titles and quite rightly expect to be able to play them without
having to hold onto old gen technology in order to be able to do this.

I, for one, hope that 3D blu ray playback is given a very high priority. It was PROMISED pre release.... and personally speaking I think that whoever gets there first will have quite the extra selling point for a very large number of current or potential
    future users.

Agreed. The dash board is painfully slow. Just getting into a party to play a match of Titanfall with friends can be a hassle. I honestly don't think MS deserves praise for their 'fast' updates as of late either. This stuff should have been there at launch.
Please people stop praising them for giving you the things you should already have. At some point they need to stop working on additional features and make the core features faster too. I hope they find that balance or a lot of people will go to Sony.

  11. agreed dashboard is painfully slow yes the last update made inviting friends at start of game slightly faster but still slow. inviting friends during a game is impossible, its that slow that if your playing titanfall you get kicked of server . had to hard
reset my console 3-4 times a week to fix silly problems , I understand its a new console and there would be bugs to iron out but really should we be having to wait this long for a next gen console to work with any sort of consistency .

Also why cant we have games in 1080 ? . if you read respawn web page they wanted titanfall to be in 1080 but cant because the system cant run it yet properly with out problems, and that they are waiting for Microsoft to sort it and then they will patch
titanfall to give us 1080 surely these things on a next gen console should be there from day one .

I am finding the whole x1 experience so frustrating that gaming is now not so much fun, and from someone who played for 8 to 10 hours a day to cant be arsed to switch it on . these things need to be addressed quickly before people just loose all faith in
    ms and x1

I don't know, maybe I haven't been multitasking as much as the next guy, but I'm really not seeing an issue. I've watched Netflix and queued in a Skype call with no lag what-so-ever. Maybe it's your internet connection, idk. But in your defense you're
not the only ones griping about it. Especially in the case of Mayhem here, I've never had an issue tossing or accepting invite on the fly mid match while playing Titanfall, CoD, or Battlefield. Since they dropped the patch last month to streamline the party
system so it's more like it was, I haven't seen any issues.

As for the 1080p issue I'd love a link to their site with that info because idk about you guys but my TV says it's playing in 1080p. The X1 has the only games on the market, between the X1 and the PS4, that have been both rendered and play in true 1080p.
Might want to check your video settings.

But getting back to the 3D thing, I'm sorry if I came off as abrasive. You're right, I don't like, not because it's not a great feature but it gives me awful headaches. So I tend to have an automatic aversion. I've got a couple friends here that work
at a Best Buy and Fry's, respectfully, that can't sell 3D to save their lives. And honestly you only have to walk into a store to see the proof. A 55" LED Smart TV without 3D is more expensive than the same thing with. People, at least here, just don't
want it. I suppose it's a regional thing. I see it kind of as HD-DVD vs DVD, no one cared enough. Especially with the infamous Blu Ray on the horizon, much like the infamous 4K resolution incoming. I think it would make a great bonus in the future, but
it's not something I would hold my breath for.

I'm not saying that any system is flawless but when you tout your system as a multi tasking monster and it falls flat on its face, that's a problem. Take exclusives out if the mix and ask yourself this, you're going to buy a console, they all have the same
game but one has a higher resolution and frame rate than the others what do you buy? I'm completely ignoring all 'entertainment features' here because the TV pass through is no good in the UK just yet and each console have their own video, music etc features.
What about XBLive v's PSN? One was far superior to the other once but with PSN now a solid service giving free new releases away on a monthly basis and chucking free to play at is newest console, Microsoft are still dragging their feet. Microsoft need to employ
someone with a clue and get some stuff in motion rather than just talking about it. Exclusives are important for any platform, its how you define it and bring people in but I'm bored of Halo, Gears & Fable so what's next? Not Titanfall which is a good game
but should have only been about £30 since they could not be bothered to include a single player campaign, plus its going multiplat next time. Sony are doing while Microsoft are talking and it shows. I'm no fanboy but after 11 XBL years of support under my
belt I can say my allegiance is slipping. Give us games, improve your policies towards indies and licences and improve your interface and I'll be happy.

And 3D support? Haven't used this for years now. Its distracting in games and video, I'd rather have 1080p and solid frame rates. Still each to their own.
