    Increasing frame rate for 1080p for high refresh rate monitors


    Why is it possible for the xbsx to push 120fps at 4k which has 4 times the amount of pixels as 1080p. But cannot support a higher refresh rate above 120fps at 1080p. If someone could tell me the reasons why this is not possible, would be really appreciated!

    Freesync and G-Sync match the panel refresh rate with the systems frame rate. It is used to reduce screen tearing when the frame rate goes above or below the monitors refresh rate. It has nothing to do with helping the system obtain a high fps. It is
    all to reduce or eliminate screen tearing.

    Unlikely, as there is no purposes in doing so. as no Xbox software renders above 60hz. Your monitor already scales and doubles to a fixed refresh rate anyway. If you want high refresh rates you need to use a pC or possibly waiting for Series X
    Understandable but the xbox one x does not even allow me to select 1440p option with VRR via freesync for my monitor. Shouldnt it work so games capped at 60 fps are matching with the monitors refresh rate if frames increase or decrease?

    So the Xbox will not do 144hz. You can increase your refresh rate to 120Hz for 1080p and 1440p resolutions. Your display must support 120Hz
    over HDMI. Be careful as a lot of monitors only support higher refresh rates on the Display port and not on HDMI.

    My advise would be to set the monitor at 60hz 1080p.

    We need to know what the make and model of the monitor.

    What a lot of people don't understand is that in the console space, high frame rate gaming is a new thing. Ever since the first games consoles, the highest refresh rate was always 60fps on a 60Hz display. Then, in 2020 The Series X|S and PS5 came out capable of 120Fps and supporting 120Hz.

    The thing is, high frame rates on high end PC monitors have been a thing for a lot, lot longer. And these high refresh rates are of over Display Port, not HDMI. You can forget what the refresh says on the website for a PC monitor, it's what it can do over DP, not HDMI. For HDMI you need to look at lot deeper into the monitor and its actual hardware specs.

    Check your monitor's frame rate and if vsync is on, if vsync is on the frame rate will be limited to your monitor's refresh rate.
