    Increase maximum allowed characters in gamertag back to 15


    There's a gamertag that I had been wanting for a long while now because I go by that name on other platforms, but it was taken. When I heard that Microsoft changed the way gamertags worked to allow people to have the same one, I was stoked because I finally would be able to change it. But they also reduced the amount of characters that could be used in your gamertag... I would have to remove three characters from the name if I wanted to use it now, and it just doesn't look good that way. It would be awesome if Microsoft could bring the character limit back to 15.

    Gamertag character limit is & always has been 15 letters which is plenty.

    Highly doubt it'll be increased any time soon i'm afraid.

    Hello! I'm sorry to hear that you're having a problem with adding a friend. When you type a gamertag in it is not case sensitive and is not very picky. It should bring you to the profile. Are you absolutely sure that the spelling is correct? Does it contain
    any symbols that are not allowed? And is the gamertag maximum 15 characters?

    If everything is correct and the gamertag still doesn't appear I recommend getting in contact with your friend a confirming the gamertag once again, or even getting a picture of it to be sure. Also, if there is a number that can be mistaken for letter and
    vice versa I would double check that you're using the right one.
