Inappropriate Gamertag

I find the name foolish. I despise it. They told me to post here *phone customer support*, but obviously not. I hope microsoft sees this thread

 

Just because you chose to ignore a contract you signed when joining Xbox LIVE--that being the
Terms of Use and
Code of Conduct--doesn't remove you from the legal obligations that are clearly stated in them. Ignorance of the law is not an acceptable defense in the court system and it is equally as unacceptable on Xbox LIVE.

It doesn't matter if yours "wasn't that bad" or if it was the most profane thing on the server the penalty is the same regardless. The free change was removed because people abused it by simply adding a number to the offensive tags and would keep doing such
each time one got banned. This generated a lot of work in the back-end of things for Microsoft which in turns costs them money all because you are too immature to come up with a respectable and appropriate gamertag.

You will not get a free name change and that's final.

 

It has been awhile since this thread was contributed to but I have experienced the same problem with my gamertag.

My gamertag, Testimayhem, was changed without any form of notification or explanation of how it violated the code of conduct. I was simply left to figure out what had happened on my own. I initially contacted support because I thought my account was hacked
and they were just as surprised as I was at the change. After investigating the issue, they found no fraudulent activity and turned me over to these forums to find answers. I find it extremely frustrating that the onus has been on me, the one paying for these
services, to figure out the issue and that my unanswered questions are turned over to forums, which apparently are the culmination of microsoft's customer service.

Furthermore, while I understand the argument that we have signed a user agreement and therefore the code of conduct is our warning, I am still frustrated at how subjective this process is. I don't understand the methodology behind determining which gamertags
violate the code of conduct and feel, as a paying customer, that I deserve some sort of explanation beyond 'this could be offensive to somebody, somewhere.' I could understanding if my name was blatantly offensive but I don't think that it is. Yet I am just
supposed to accept the decision and pay to have my name changed from the randomly generated one I was given.

I know nobody here can do anything but this seems to be the only place I can share my thoughts and have the slight possibility of being heard.

 

Pup, I hear ya. Not fun having things changed without you being the one to do it. The process as I understand it is that if someone flags your Gamertag as inappropriate, it is subjected to peer review. People in the Enforcement United program, and I mean
multiple people, are asked whether or not they feel your Gamertag can be accurately categorized as offensive. If enough people agree that it is, it is sent up the chain to the Policy Enforcement Team for a final review and potential action. So this kind
of thing shouldn't ever really be an oversight. Multiple people made the decision that your previous Gamertag could be deemed offensive, something that cannot be clearly mapped out in rules. It's one of those fuzzy subjective things that can really only
be verified by a group of individuals making judgement calls. In this case, your Gamertag simply didn't make it through the purifying flame.

 

My gamertag "capedobear" was removed and I fail to understand where it violates the code of conduct. If anyone can tell me where it is offensive to anyone or in violation of the code of conduct, please feel free to enlighten me. I totally agree whith the
points Happypup made. I guess the most appropriate thing for me to do now would be to spend less money on MS products. Keep on your marketing policy !

 

pedo is short for well somebody who is attracted to under age people that was why yours was changed. and there is an infamous cartoon bear called pedobear that is well known among the internet so I am 99.99999% sure THAT is why your tag was reported and
given the forced change.

 

Thanks for your answer davencfly85. So I guess gamertags with words such as "torpedo" will get the same treatment. I never intended to make a pedophile pun and I had never heard about that ugly bear before you mentioned it. I now better understand why they
banned my old gamertag.

 

it is not so much the pedo itself but the context torpedo would be fine but pedo and the bear after it was what put you over the line I hope that when you change your name you won't have to change it again my friend good luck and happy gaming.

Then maybe uing common sense will help you more

Most services will not give you any warning at all

Most will also include a forcéd name change not of your choosing with no option to change later or a suspension

Trust me this is light compared to what most services do

Next time use common sense it will save you time and money

And no the name changes are not up for debate

My gamertag has lots of Ws and Ms but some other people think I'm a hacker and no I'm actually not. So there is lot of complaints on my gamertag but I'm not changing it. And I hate people saying " change it "I don't care remove me or what I don't care it's
your problem not mine.

 

The terms of use is pretty clear and the code of conduct if you can't say it infront of a child you shouldn't do it it is that simple

Common sense should always be used

If you don't aggree with method thèn You are in for a shock

Most services will change your name forcibily and most require You to use Common sensé. Some people dont login to avoid théforce name change forcing thé community to enduré with thé violation

Just hiding a bad Word or something Not acceptable in public with numbers and Words is Not acceptéd on any server

Some servers will Hand a 3day suspension Along with a forcéd name change

Xbox and other servers will Hand a perm ban on any accounts naming rules too many times

 

Well you can point an accusing finger at me ngocphi however I never meant to hide a bad word or meant to cheat on the code of conduct. I have been using my nickname " capedbear" since 1994. It describes an imaginary kind of super bear wearing a cape. Nothing
more to it, no pedo reference at all. It's my gamertag on PSN and had no problems with it. Unfortunately that gamertag was unavailable on Xbox live a few years back so I inserted the "o" between the two words. Until now I never realized it could mean something
completely different than I intended. It wasn't lack of common sense, it was an honest mistake.

 

Is there a way to change my gamertag for free because its inappropriate if so let me know microsoft

 

No to change your gamertag you have to pay $9.99. And please start a new thread next time instead of a dead one.
