Unfortunately, there are several things that support typically tells people that is incorrect.

    Hey again Pritt08,

Again, there is an approximate 7 year time frame when a Microsoft account is closed if it's inactive for that long. This means that if a Microsoft account is created and isn't signed into for 7 years, then that means that the account will be closed. However,
just because someone has a Microsoft account and an Xbox Profile attached to it, doesn't mean the Microsoft account is inactive. They may still use their Microsoft account for other services such as Skype, logging into their personal computer, OneDrive, and
several other services they may use with that Microsoft account.

I doubt very seriously that Xbox Support lied to you. They can however make mistakes because they are only human just like we are.

Should you have any other concerns, feel free to post back.

    Cheers!

When I made the account on the original Xbox, I'm pretty sure you didn't have to have a "Microsoft account"; the dashboard just asked for an email address. The email address I used probably isn't even a real address (it's probably something stupid like *** Die E-Mail-Adresse wurde aus Datenschutzgründen entfernt. ***
    - I was like 15 or 16 and immature). If this is the case, which I know it is, then there is no way there are any other Microsoft services associated with the account.

  5. I just don't think it should be that hard for me to tell a support rep what the account in question is, let them look at the account see that it has been not logged into for over nine years, let them also look and see that it has no other Microsoft services
associated with the account, and therefore, is an account that has been dead for a decade and is not doing anyone any good just sitting out there. Even if it wasn't my account (which it was all those years ago), whoever made it should forfeit their rights
to it by not using it and it should be deleted much sooner than the 7 year rule(that no one can confirm exists).

  7. Already did man.

It even gives Microsoft additional revenue, because you know if they actually did this, lots more people would pay to change their tags.

Why are they letting so many loyal supporters sit here unhappy?

    Inactive Xbox Live Gamertag

First and foremost it was never a rule nust an one time announcement at the time of the announcement that they would release some nlgamertags that were retired 7+ years at the time of the announcement

2Nd gamertags are not an ondemand service

If you dont want to go thru the recovery proccess you will just have to wait

Noone can confirm the rule because it was never a rule

It was also announced they stoped this practjce of announcing when they release names because of the balant violationa of the terms of use

People actually selling accounts with the said names

If you want a name nust keep trying to take the name till it is free

They wont preannounce it becauae others will just grab it and charge you oodles of money for it

Hence why its a better system to actually have random instances noone can predict when their name is available nor grab 1000s of freely made accounts with new names that are indemand

Just folloow the suggrlestion like user voice and wait for sometbing that wont come due to the abuse of the laat announcements or follow the due proccess of recovering your account or simply wait and keep trying to grab the name

  9. ngocphi, I am "just waiting", it's all I can do. The reason I'm aggravated is because I have waited more than two years longer than Microsoft's "seven year rule", and there is still no end in sight. I think that a Microsoft rep should have the authority,
and the common sense, to look at an account that has been dormant for a decade and see that no one is missing it, and remove it from the system, regardless of ownership, when it has been this long.

Also, if there is no "seven year rule" like you say there isn't, then Microsoft is lying about it to me and LOTS of other people who are also wanting inactive Gamertags. Are you defending them lying?

I think what is actually happening is when Microsoft reps are asked about Gamertag inactivity, they're instructed to tell customers that it has a seven year time out, even though it doesn't look like this is true and no one can confirm it's true. They're
probably told this because it's such a long time, that they don't expect that anyone has waited that long or will wait that long on an account to be deleted; I think it's more or less, a way to get customers off their back, because if they just admitted that
old Gamertags are never deleted, customers would likely be much more unhappy. Regardless, it looks like a lie and is unacceptable if it is.

There is no 7 year rule you forget that accounts are legal accounts right?

Deleting something that is someone property

And no support has no authority it is the network engineers perview

And as stated before it was discontinued announcing when

They didnt stop deleting as stated before they stoped announcing it. Its not a lie you just didnt understand the announcement they made it pretty clear that it was over time not set dates

Here is the offical nnouncement and quote from support

    forums.xbox.com/.../1988157.aspx

I heard old GTs are being re-added. When will "This GT" be available?

There is no schedule or estimated dates for when certain GTs will become available again. GTs are not an on-demand service. They will be available when they are available.

You will have to just keep trying for the name

It is not an ondemand service it is freed when it is freed

If you want something speedier go thru the recovery service

  11. So, since you say there is no 7 year rule, then by your logic, we're being lied to by Microsoft.

It would be deleting something that is someone's property, but common sense should be exercised to see that the person hasn't used their property in a DECADE. Someone else could make better use of this property. The rules should be that people lose the right
to their tag after this much time.

Support may not have the authority to delete accounts, but they should. Or, you should at least be able to talk to someone that has that authority so that you can plead your case to them and hope they have the common sense to see the facts.

It is a lie, because I've been told directly by support when I've called them about it multiple times, that there is, indeed, a 7 year rule. Even if they say differently in your link, they said it to me, and lots of other people, lots of times.

No you just dont understand the announcement

    At wasnt set in stone

They would gradually release the names there was no timeline or date when said gamertags were released

They said they would just not ahen which is smarter

If they announced it and you lost your name to a moder wouldnt you be *** off?

At least withbno preannouncements everyone has equal footing you just have to just keep checking

Vs an announced released and 1000s of names are grabed before you can say happy news and you lose your name

  13. Inactive Xbox Live Gamertag

I've heard the "7 year rule" directly from SEVERAL support reps mouths.

Even if there is no 7 year rule, how long are you saying that it will take for the account to be released? Don't you think an ENTIRE DECADE is ridiculous? And to be told, after waiting for this long, "Oh, it's coming, we just don't know when. Just keep waiting."

Ridiculous and unacceptable. It's a shame that there isn't anything that the customers can do.

    Hi Pritt08,

As suggested above if you want a new feature or change to Xbox Live
up-vote the request here. That is the best and only way to voice your opinion about Xbox policies and features. Unfortunately no one on the forums will be able to assist with this issue.

  15. Daft Badger Win User

How to submit a ticket for requesting an inactive account gamertag to be reset?

How do you know it's inactive? Gamertags are used on several Microsoft services, not just Xbox live,so there is no way to know if a gamertag is inactive or not.

Just because a gamertag has low gamerscore of hasn't logged into Xbox live for a certain amount of time does not mean it's inactive.
  16. Smwutches Win User

    Not Used GamerTag's being deleted?

Earlier this year Microsoft released some inactive gamertags from the Original Xbox Live service.
  17. Daft Badger Win User

    Inactive GT

    Afraid not.

Gamertags are used on other services, not just xbox live so you can't know whether a gamertag is inactive or not.

If a gamertag isn't used for 5 years then it is made available.
  18. EtagLive Win User

    Inactive gamertags

As others have stated, gamertags get periodically released after they have been inactive for a while.

Some accounts may apear as inactive in xbox live (may have no gamerscore for example) but are actually used for other purposes such as an email account.

Once they are marked as expired, there is another waiting period to confirm they are inactive (the owner of the gamertag can re-activate the account to keep the tag if they want)
  19. Miss Kleo Win User

Inactive person has the GT I want.

Hey SmG! If the Gamertag is currently taken by another user (inactive on Xbox LIVE or not) then it is not available. There are certain cases where Gamertags are resurfaced, which it sounds like you're inquiring about, but this is determined when an account
has been inactive for many years. If you're still seeing that profile then this wouldn't be the case! You'll have to find another Gamertag that you like.
