Inactive GamerTags

I've been wanting to have the gamertag "Sloshy" for about the last 3 or 4 years now, currently i have the tag "", and the account who has the GamerTag "Sloshy" has had silver membership for the last few years and hasn't been online in a long while,
it just says "offline", i was just curious of when/if dead accounts get GamerTags reset or would there be any chance of gaining that GamerTag

Inactive spaced gamertags should be removed and released. They are inactive, 100 percent inactive place holding gamertags.

 

Do you think Microsoft will clear out old unused gamertags?

They actually do this but its not live gamertags as much as Microsoft accounts goes inactive for x period they will purge it

 

It used to be at least 7 years before they were released,now they don`t release them at all.

You have zero chance of getting that tag without the owner releasing it.

 

If the owner doesn't use the account, it might be quite difficult, but you could always try to contact the owner of the profile & simply ask if they're willing to give it up.

 

Gamertags are used for services other than xbox live so there is no way to know if the tag isn't being used.

Owners cant release gts. They c an cancel their accounts but the tags stay in the system locked out for anyone t o use.

 

The name can be released if the original owner is willing to spend $10 dollars to change the name. Sorry op but nothing can be done. Stick with your current tag iSloshy is a great name.

Yes, when you change your tag, the old tag is available. I changed my name in the past and added a guy as a friend who took my old name.

 

^ um it had to have been spelled just one letter different and you must not have noticed.

A retired gamer tag gets a lock out for ten years. This is to ensure the user enough to too reclaim what's theirs.

I never heard anything about a policy change and the gamer tags now never being unlocked but I would not doubt it.

The very first gamer tags that had been canceled would most likely just barely be being unlocked.

 

Ok years ago there was an annoucement about free tags from the old xbox era. But never since. And no mention of anything to do with ten years either. So gts cannot be freed not by us anyway.

 

Changing your tag frees up your old one for anyone to use.

There is a user here on the forums that has changed his name several times and then gone back to his original tag.

They are certainly not locked away for ten years.

I just changed my GT on monday or tuesday. After I changed it I created a new email address with my old GT.

If a tag is taken, there is nothing you can do about it, except wait for the owner to change it to something else.
