Inactive Gamertag since 2008

Hello everyone!

I am inquiring about changing my current gamertag to one that is currently taken, but has been inactive since 2008. It is a silver/free account on Xbox 360 only. I know Microsoft previously released ~ 1 million gamertags. Is there anyway to get this one
through support? Seems like 8 years is enough time to give it to someone else.

When is Microsoft reseting the v1 gamertags.

I'd really like for Microsoft to free up the gamertags that haven't seen activity over a prolonged period of time. Really lusting the "Kanaye" gamertag but the account has been inactive since 2008, I think?

Inactive Gamertags

How long does an account have to be inactive for in order to revoke a Gamertag and give it to someone else? I want to change my Gamertag to Cassassinate and I've seen that the player has been inactive since 2008. Is it possible to do such a thing?
I'd appreciate any help I can get.

If it's taken, there's no way to get it. Not even support will be able to get it for you. Gamertags are also used on other Microsoft services, so even if they're not being used on an Xbox, they could be in use elsewhere.

If its an "Original Gamertag" that is silver and looks inactive, it most likely belongs to a fanatic who collects these types of gamertags. Technically nothing can be done since it belongs to someone. Even if the account is inactive.

Thanks for posting1 We're unable to reset Gamertags over the forums, however keep in mind that inactive Gamertags are released every 5 years, but only if they've been inactive. Since these threads can turn into Gamertag request threads, this will be closed.

its shows its released but in reality it is probably blocked by an inactive spaced version. Gamertag will not be usuable imo until the inactive spaced version is removed. Which i think microsoft should remove since the gamertag is being wasted.
