    hey I was wondering if there’s anyone who can review an inactive accounts activity quicker than the automatic system that reviews them so I can get a new gamertag that’s cooler than what I currently have

    Do you think Microsoft will clear out old unused gamertags?

    They actually do this but its not live gamertags as much as Microsoft accounts goes inactive for x period they will purge it

    When does Microsoft deem an account inactive long enough to warrant that "purge" of inactive gamer tags?

    No. If a person doesn't sign into their account for 5 years, it will be released. There is no way around that. The only other way for a gamertag to be freed up is if the original owner changes it to something else.

    Just to add,gamertags are used on other services,not just xbox live,so you have no way of knowing whether a gamertag is being used or not.

    Adding to this, just because it is inactive on Xbox, does not mean that the Microsoft account is inactive. As long as they keep using the account, then the gamertag will stay attached.

    An account has to be inactive for two years now, before the account is closed.

    If the tag belongs to an inactive account would it not be available for lookup? Could that be why I'm having this issue? Also, if the account is inactive is there anyway for me to get the tag? Also, is there a way to search for inactive gamertags like
    mine possibly is?

    When will Xbox release inactive account gamertags out again?

    in 2016 they announced that inactive accounts will be removed if they didn't been active for 5 years. So that means inactive accounts will be deleted in 2021

    getting another persons inactive account deleted.

    The basic answer is no.

    The next roll off of inactive accounts will be in 2021 I believe, and the account will have to have been inactive 5 years.
