Inaccessible Files Renamed

(This happened a while ago but I’ve decided I want to get to the bottom of it an fix it)

I use a flash drive for a majority of my games, and one day when I plugged the flash drive into my laptop I found some of the save files and decided to rename them on the flash drive. Now instead of being a random selection of numbers and letters it was a physical name I gave it. Now the Xbox (Xbox 360) can no longer read what’s in the files I’ve renamed. I don’t know the original name code things either.

Help?

You misunderstand. I plugged my flash drive (which had my saves on it) and I renamed the folders. I didn’t transfer anything. The names use to be a random assortment of letters and numbers.

Now they’re just basic titles. It reads the untouched ones just fine

Xbox files are not meant to be read on a PC and transferred between a PC and console. If they're the files for the actual games, you would just have to redownload them. If they're saves, then they're lost unless you still have them saved on the console or backed up somewhere else.

That is the risk with renaming things as you don't know how the console reads that file....the original file name (the jumbled letters and numbers) could be what the Xbox associates with that game and it won't have a reference for the new name.

It could also be that renaming the files in a Windows environment changes the structure of the file somehow, thus rendering them unreadable.

It's why you never mess around with save files without backing them up somewhere else first

That statement is actually false. When you rename your gamertag, the previous tag goes into a sort of limbo for an undetermined time, and actually becomes inaccessible.

Τhere is a solution!! Analyse the dump file to see which .sys file is causing the error!!! Then rename the file to .sysa
