In Line Microphones

Hi, my name is Wil, I am here to inform people that headphones/earphones with an "Inline Microphone" will work to speak over XboxOne. I thought I'd inform you all about this because I couldn't find any forum about this.

Is the microphone for this headset in-line (on the actual headset cable)? I know for other headsets this means the microphone won't work for the Xbox One.

On the Xbox App on windows 10, to change the Speakers/Microphone settings, you can find them by clicking the three line button at the top left and choosing settings.

In the General tab, the 2nd sub-section should say "Party". There is a drop down for Speakers, and another for Microphone that allow you to select your devices.

 

There's actually a support article that details what kind of headsets are compatible with the Xbox One controller.

Headsets with microphones will work if the 3.5mm jack is manufactured to CTIA standards, where the 3.5mm sections laid out from cord-side to end are in this order:
microphone, ground, right, left. OMTP (the other standard) has some headsets swap the ground and microphone sections, likely causing buzzing/static once connected, as well as the mic signals not being transmitted.
