  2. In the 'old day's' "extra's" were in game unlockable. Since BIG companies now have all rights to games. That extra content will cost ya dearly.

It is what it is, and what it IS isn't what it should be.

$60.00 for the game, and another $60.00 for extra's. = what I term. Half baked gaming.

Add to that the fact that even the retail games themselves are being released half backed (Day one update required.) and for $60.00 all you're really getting is 1/2 to 2/3 of a retail game.

Best to just skip this generation of gaming and perhaps Corporations will get their act together.

i'm fine with DLC, it can keep a game going for a while longer and maybe helps fund the next game, i'm good with in game unlockables, it offers a reward for completing a challenge. and i'm indifferent about pre-order bonuses, 99% of the time it is starter
equipment that is complete garbage after a short time.

what i don't like, and feel has a negative impact on gaming, are disc locked DLC, that is just trying to "pull the wool over your eyes" on gamers and it's dirty. and over priced DLC, Destiny is a prime example, i had no issues buying CoD DLC in the past
because it added a healthy number of maps into the mix that kept me going for a couple hundred hours, i wish Bungie would have seen the error of their ways by now and given players some real DLC, or add an addition DLC for free, but no, i doubt i will invest
anymore money into Destiny if this is what "Bungle" feels is a good and complete game. /Destiny rant

I like what DLC was supposed to be initially. A game addon by the developers of said game. You would get the whole game when they released their game, and then they would come out with a side story that you could play. I don't like how a lot of companies
now strip out various parts of their whole game and sell those parts as DLC. You don't go to a car dealership and buy a car and then wait later to buy the seats and then a little longer to buy the A/C. I have a feeling that at some point people are going
to get fed up with it and we'll see a market crash in the video game industry. I hope I am wrong.

In game unlock are good if done right. As for pre-order bonus. It should mean something. Like early access of a DLC. But that me.

I don't mind unlocking stuff in the game, but some unlocking requirements are just absolutely ridiculous.

I think it used to bother me more with CoD. But eventually the pre-order stuff will get unlocked for everyone most of them time. Luckily I'm a patient person.

As for DLC if I really like a game I don't mind paying for extra content. But Day 1 DLC annoys me more than anything.

Making games Digital Only trims MILLIONS off of a AAA Project's Budget, a game like 'Arkham City' shipped about 4.5 Million Hard Copies Worldwide in its first week after launch, the manufacturing/shipping costs are more than just
    a little significant….

Arkham99 please show your work and sources on the above. Or are pull stuff out the thin air?

I guess you're gonna say now that this guy likes to "pull stuff out the thin air" too Jasperrdm?

    http://www.xboxachievements.com/news/news-9933-Pow--Arkham-City-Ships-4-6-Million-Copies-in-First-Week.html
Something wrong with your browser that you can't verify this "stuff" on your own since you're so interested in knowing? Apologies for not supplying
a copy of Warner Bros. Manufacturing Bill for the total cost of 4.6 Million Copies of the DVD and how much for the shipping, but I don't actually work for them you see, but anyone with a brain can easily see that going 'Digital Only' would've saved the Publisher
Millions in this particular example...In game unlocks and pre orders ruining gaming? :)

  10. We are going to be able to see how the lack of physical media is going to effect sales with Arkham Knight on the PC.

Warner are releasing the game as digital only here in the UK.

I think it's crazy that people don't mind paying upwards of a 100 quid for a game. That's absurd. Arkham99 obviously loves Batman and would pay any amount, but the rest of you that don't mind paying that much for games is actually shocking.

Arkham 99, I do not care if BAC shipped millions. To clarify you said "Making games Digital Only trims MILLIONS off of a AAA Project's Budget" and now you state :Apologies for not supplying a copy of Warner Bros. Manufacturing Bill" since you don't work
for Warner Brothers. You forget some of the following. The cost of extra servers, maintenance and tech for the servers to handled the serve loadr. You forget that WB may just tell Gamestop "it will be on the docks, send your mailroom staff down at 5 pm."

So, you "do not care if BAC shipped millions", yet you request that I "show your (my) work and sources"? Maybe I should ask you to "show your work and sources", or more specifically, list exactly what RAW MATERIALS are required to facilitate a 'Digital
Only' release? Not to insult your intellect or anything, but a Hard Copy requires Plastic DVD Cases, DVDs, and a Sleeve to be Inserted with every release and an order of 4.6 Million Copies will cost the Publisher atleast, uh, 4.6 Million Dollars?. Even with
a Discount on such a large order, you're STILL looking at MILLIONS.

You wanna go on about the "cost of extra"?! Those sleeves involve Printing, not to mention that the whole package requires Assembly. You actually believe that the Shipping of "CD Keys" or Codes that can be Electronically Transmitted Anywhere in The World
are more expensive than importing RAW MATERIALS?!! Silly me, I "forget some of the following" Haha.

In addition to the 4.6 Million Copies Shipped during the 1st Week, less than half (approximately 2 Million but you "do not care") were actually sold. The data does not include the significant amount of USED copies that that 2 Million cut into the rest where
Retailers pocketed what was supposed to go to those who Funded the Project for you to even enjoy in the first place, but people like you simply "do not care"...In game unlocks and pre orders ruining gaming? :)

I'm 100% guilty of this but it depends on the game. I used to always by the hardened or prestige edition of CoD because I loved it. I'm a sucker for special editions of games. I've gotten better though. I pretty selective now about what games I'll go all in
for with regards to DLC or special editions.

Holy crap!! You really think it costs a dollar for every game?! You'd be out of business so fast for that. It probably costs these guys pennies (at most) for a single case, dvd & sleeve, considering they are ordering 4.6 million of them.
