Impossible to change gamertag from UK

I requested a callback from support last night because I had been trying unsuccessfully to change my gamertag. For some reason it did not allow my paypal to be used for it, but they were happy to take £50 for Sea of Thieves. It also has no option to add
a card that is not issued in US. Thanks to the state / province having no NON-US option.

I got a phonecall from support and the guy on the line seemed to have less idea than I did. Eventually he told me that I needed to buy a gift card, I asked him if he was 100% sure that would work and he said 'yes I checked it'. Told me he'd go and see if
there were any other ways and then hung up.

So, I bought a gift card when I woke up this morning.... And it won't accept it to change my gamertag.

I'm extremely annoyed as he basically gave me the wrong info which has cost me money without fixing the issue.

I've never contacted support for Xbox, but it is shockingly terrible via the phone system. Does anyone actually know what they are doing?

combining 2 gamertags

When I moved from the UK to the US I could not use my gamertag because the billing was set to UK, and none of the game codes that you get in the US worked with the UK gamertag. As a result I now have 2 gamertags, but Microsoft have since made it possible
to change the region of your gamertag, something that I tried to do when I moved, but they said was impossible... clearly they were lying. So they should merge my accounts, that would push me over the 9000 pts I need for my rewards, as well as allow me to
access all my rockband downloads without having to sign in with 2 accounts etc... Any thoughts on how to proceed?

 

Moved country but can't change a account settings

You cannot change the country that your Gamertag was entered when you went through the creation process. For example, you cannot change from the UK Dashboard that has UK content etc to the New Zealand dashboard with a Gamertag. Your gamertag will remain
as it was in the UK.

You can sign into Passport.net and go into the Account Management and change your Local to New Zealand. However like I have mentioned above, everything on your XBOX 360 and the Xbox LIVE Dashboard will remain the UK.

 

you need to change your region using the link bottom left of this page, to United Kingdom, I've just done this and paid £7.99 to change my gamertag
